Fallout 2 Crash

Whenever I click the little backpack icon on a dead spider, the inventory screen pops up and then the game crashes.
I'm on Windows XP and this is a legit copy of Fallout 2 that was bought at Target.
Any ideas why this happens?
And how do you loot enemies when they die? (a bit off-topic, but it came without a manual, just a tiny little case)

I have DirectX 9.1, a Geforce 4 TI4200 128mb graphics card, 512mbDDRam, and an Athlon XP 1600+ processor.

I have the latest patch, too.(it crashes both with 1.02 and the unofficial 1.04. I'm trying to get the unofficial 1.05 now but I have to wait in line to download, I couldn't find any mirrors)

Hmm, well, Fallout 2 does not work very well on xp, but if that's all you have, don't click on the backpack icon on the dead spider?

Why the hell are you trying to backpack a spider? BTW, do you mean a Giant Ant?

I was going to say, I didn't think there were any spiders.

I don't recall the option to search an ant carcass...

Maybe your game is bugged?

Why would you want to loot a spider anyway?

The manual for the game should be on the game disk, under pdf format I think. It was on mine... if not http://www.nma-fallout.com/files/index.php?action=file&id=48 duh, everything fallout is here man.

And looting enemies, you can only loot enemies that carry stuff, not ants.

My save game crashes now! For some reason, the game stopped crashing regularly and I played through a bit of it and got to the Den and killed the Italian guy and got a gun. I saved my game and quit.
Now I can't load that savegame. Whenever I try, I get an error that closes the game.
