Fallout 2 driving me insane!

First time out of the vault
Hello, newbie here!

Having noticed how cheesy it is when newbies go "OMG I LUV this game more than my life!!11! It is the greatest eva!" on their very first posts on their favorite games' forums (noticed this many times on TTLG forums) I'll just settle for saying F2 is an excellent game and I feel shame not having tried it earlier. Few months ago I pucharsed "PC Best Buy" version and was sold.

The point nonetheless is: Is there a "God mode" cheat in this game? I'm strongly opposed to cheating when one uses all kinds of IDDQDs to just a speedrun a game. When cheats help you get past a frustrating place I'm very much pro for the cheat codes.

Long version: May contain spoilers!

After discovering the situation in Wanamingo mines I decided to take the quest. First I pucharsed the deed right away (leaving me about 200-300 $). That amount doesn't buy great armour or automatic guns. Well, the I got to my senses, loaded prev game and did not buy the deed leaving me about $1300. I decided to save that money and luckily it was 21th day of the month and I left with a caravan.
My problem is that I really don't have bigger gun than double barrel shotgun and no armor to wear. I discovered the journey to that place (already forgot) to be LONG and containing MANY battles with UNFAIR enemies! I get always defeated and I have tried near a dozen times to the point game crashed.

Writing that I began to think that maybe I should load prev game (which is quite far away) and just deal with it. I would mean playing same quest all over again but do I have a choice?

Anyway I could just delete this post but it is my first one so what the heck...

P.S. The Spellchecking apparently doesn't know word "newbie" :P

There's no in-game cheat, but the Falche utility and/or the Inventory editor accomplish much the same effect. Change your HP to 999 or something then change it back after you're done with the impossible caravan, taking any level-ups into account.

OR you could abandon the caravan. Sort of the proper role-playing option after your character discovers he's in over his head.

If you have a shotgun and no armor, you definitely got way ahead of yourself.
Steady progression is the best way to go about in these games, not rushing through places, because you won't be strong enough at the next place (as you discovered from travelling to Redding too early).

Eh, anyway, reload a previous save, or, if you don't want to do that, try to do some small quests in Redding (if there are any, heh), and travel to another place where you will be able to do something without getting killed.

Thanks very much! That is what I'm going to do. Searching a bunch of cheat code sites already managed to make me a bit desperate. I have a bad habit saving only in one or two slots then something like this happens. SS2 newbie times and overwritten quick saves (auto saves) come to mind.

Fire geckos here I come, you bastards...

Yeah, had to learn it the hard way :) Also one reason for this mess is that I'm just too cheap! There was leather armor for sale for $400 but wanted to save for that big ass armor forr $1400
