Fallout 2 Explosive Crash

Pro n00b

First time out of the vault
Hey all, I'm using Windows XP Corp, and have Fallout 2. It runs great except for the fact that every so often when I plant explosives the game crashes giving a bunch of errors that I can't see half of the time. Any way to fix this? I really miss planting explosives on people, and in some parts of the game its the only way to solve some quests/puzzles. Anyhelp in this area would be great. Thanks All.

Taken from Per's guide:

If you kill someone using Dynamite, crashes may occur. Just try again and eventually it should work (or if not, well, switch to another method). People have also reported crashes when using the Pipboy to wait for Dynamite to explode, or leaving the current map (which forces explosives to go off), but it's my belief that these things do not in themselves cause crashes. Also, as noted previously in the guide, it's not a good idea to save while there are explosives waiting to go off.

I think the program crashes because of the failure of the damage calculation.
 I remember I blew C4 in my inventory, I mean, my inventory was closed, and I was hit for no damage because of the power armor I yielded.
So this makes me think that there is a special luggage space in a power armor suit  , and which is separated or protected, probably to be able to keep rotten food or radiated chemicals  . Wow, it should be definitely japanese production.

Explosives error

Hi,

I have the same problem on my evil quest in Redding.
If I try to rob the cash-room of mayor Ascorti in the Ace casino.
After picking the lock, I need to take the guard out without sturring a ruckus. So, I try to plant a couple of dynamites then I hide in the manhole, wait for the explosion and raid the room.
So far so good!

The only problem is I cannot leave the room again through the manhole cause the game crashes (application error) or save due to corruption of the save game.

I tried many times in different ways, but Fallout 2 keeps going bananas when I use TNT.

I don't see how to take out the guard without a firefight.
I don't want to use stimpacks or whatever...
I want to blow stuff up! lol

As far as I know, I installed all the patches.
Isn't there another way or a newer patch to eliminate this problem.
Because my character is basicly build to use traps and I don't want to cheat! This is a very anoying bug!

Thnx and Greetings T.

Reply

No, I didn't.

Could be the problem cause it's been a while when I installed the game.

Thnx, Sander

I've gotten the crash from grenades going off before, but this has only happened when I'm standing adjacent to a wall and some one misses when they throw the grenade. The grenade goes flying "into" and past the wall some where, explodes, except without the animation, and then my computer makes a grinding whirr sound and Fo2 crashes. But this only happens when they miss, and the grenade's trajectory takes it past a wall.

re-instal

Oke, I re-installed F2, patched it and took off from where I saved.
But It didn't do much; the same error keeps re-imurging.
Going to lower all win XP specs and if that doesn't work then the only option I got left is leave it for what it is and move on in the game. Getting a little tired of trying over&over again.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

Patches

Maybe someone already posted this. So forgive if that is the case, I have used the search button.

It has to do with the explosive crash.
If I change the us-patch to the uk-patch maybe that could solve my problem even though they're almost the same i red.

Question:

I was wondering, could I load up us-patched save games with the uk-patched F2?

I really don't know anymore, I'm not a computer expert.
I tried everything lowering XP-specs that didn't help. playing different strategies did nothing, turning off/installing videocard drivers, re-installing F2 manualy, etc...

Pfff, next I'm going to give that virtual PC prg a shot.
Hoping that will help.

Apparently, trying something is very, very hard.
In other words: no, it wouldn't matter. At all.

I have had the crash on XP with all mods and patches...soon you learn to save before using explosives....never happened on ME or 98 so its obviously just something in how the OS handles the game...sometimes it work sometimes..most times...it dont, so just save before you set the bomb....should be saving often anyhow I suppose.
