Fallout 2 game crashes everytime I go to the Umbra Tribe

Fy

First time out of the vault
Every time I go to the umbra tribe my game crashes and says my memory could not be read please help =(

I have Restoration Project 2.2 and RP2miria.zip mod.

theres's a lot of memory problem with this mod, it fucks up entirely the game experience

I find it interesting how some people have certain issues and others none. I'm running a 12 year old PC with XP, and I never have any issues, the game runs smoothly. Naturally I never save in combat, and follow the install instructions carefully... :P

O rly? Please provide examples and save games. Also it's entirely possible that there are issues with the high res patch and whatever your settings are.

If the crashes are random, but consistent, then there are clearly issues with your setup. Try different settings for the res patch, ddraw.ini, etc. I (as well as many others) have run this mod on numerous machines with no problems whatsoever.

i have also an old xp
actually i never have problems with the original game, but when i lead off the mod part, then there's memory failure , the crashes are somewhat random, but reloading a save repeat the bug
it's true that i have saved in a kaga encounter for example, but that's the game to save, note that this isn't the only spot where it crashed , and name them all is pointless
for the resolution i give up the 16-32 bit it lag off severely the game , my resolution is 800x600 and the screen refresh rate is 60
there's is also a bug in some parts of game cinematics, in the morrigan encounter for example, where the screen is all fucked up like an old tv that can't receive , this could be the refresh rate

To not derail this thread, Fy, do you happen to have a save game?

@Nibiru: Have you tried removing the high res patch? Remove/rename f2_res.dll and f2_res.ini.

In general if the original game had no problem on your current system (and if you're actually sure that it *currently* plays just fine in vanilla, not that it *did* long ago) then it's either sfall or the high res patch causing trouble. I'd lean towards the high res patch, based on the graphic issues you've been describing.

I have something similar happening to me when I clear the Slavers Camp and speak to Sulik's sister the game crashes when the scene changes from Slavers Camp to Umbra Village .

I then get the message "The instruction at 004af46a referenced memory at 00000028. The Memory could not be read from.

I also have Restoration Project 2.2 and RP2miria.zip mod installed. Any help would be great.

I've had that issue in the past, with the same location. I can't remember what I did to fix it, though. I think it has to do something with the proto files not loading correctly, or they're not marked as read. It seems like I remember something like this, but not 100%.

Maybe you can try re-installing the game over your files and try again. If I can remember what I did exactly to fix it, I'll mention it. I think I reinstalled, or just copied and pasted another set of files (I mod my own game, so I have several copies of various game files saved.)

The one thing I know that often happens (at least to me,) is that the save file is usually screwed on the location that crashes after the fact. You have to use an older one, if you have it, and start over.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific right now. I'm having a brain fart on the whole issue, other than the fact I know it happened to me, too. Maybe one of the modders know what I'm trying to explain and actually can help you with it better.

Thnx CPL for replying.

I did re-install everything and used Endocore's Miria for Real mod and so far I managed to get to Umbra Village with no crashes.

That's good to know. Perhaps something didn't install correctly with that location the first time around. This game can be cranky and have a mind of it's own, sometimes, I think.
