Fallout 2- Hubologist Base Forcefields Not Deactivating

First time out of the vault
Title says most of it. I've got the Shi mission to kill AHS-9, yet the base forcefields are still up and I cannot get in. I'd already done the very basic Hubologist initiation part, just to get a feel for them, so I guess I've already used my free pass into base?

If I tell them I'm ready to join, then get taken inside, I can actually kill AHS-9, but then... I can't get out, the forcefields are still up.

Any way to circumvent this, either legitimately or otherwise?

We have a winner. Thanks guys, never realized you could drop them via repair >.> Been playing for years now, off and on, and I've never once done that.
