Fallout 2 installation disaster

LaughingBandit

First time out of the vault
I've tried installing it in all sizes, but after it's done and I try to play I get the odd error: "Couldn't load/find text fonts" FONTS! Fonts are stopping me from having fun! I would have gotten away with to too if it hadn't been for those meddling FONTS! BAH! Help me PLEASE!

1. Edit your post instead of double posting.

2. You need to be able to open a file (fallout2.cfg to be precise) and change the lines specified in the sticky. If you can tell us some basic info like what letter identifies your hard drive and which folder the game is installed in, someone should be able to give you the exact lines to put in.

C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2 is the path it's installed to, but I don't see fallout2.cfg anywhere.

I'm not trying to bump this or anything it's just that I'd like to start playing and I have no idea how to fix the problem. The FAQ is very technical and i'm not that good. So please help. :(

What OS are you using? Have you tried a manual install?

He means to copy the files from the cd yourself without using the installer. You can find out how to do that here:
Manual Installation of Fallout 1/2

If you use the Humongous install, it's enough if your fallout2.cfg looks like this (don't worry that Kuj2's .cfg file was much bigger, it will be filled in once you start your game).
Code:
[sound]
music_path1=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data\sound\music\
music_path2=(CDROM):\data\sound\music\

[system]
critter_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\critter.dat
critter_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data
master_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\master.dat
master_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data
Note that "(CDROM)" in music_path2 should be replaced with the letter of your cd-drive.

So, if your last install was the biggest one, try to put this (and only this) in your fallout2.cfg. If that doesn't work, try to do the manual install.

cheers
