Fallout 2 Installation problems

First time out of the vault
I have windows xp and had no problems playing it until recently. I did the humongous install option, but when I click on on the FO2 icon I get an error message saying "cannot find/load fonts". It doesn't even get to the loading screen. I've tried manually installing by using that stickied thread up top, but when I try copying master.dat I get a message saying "invalid dos function". I'm about to go crazy, can anyone help?
 
Have you updated anything on your computer? Did you install programs or such before it started to malfunction?

EDIT: Oops, almost posted a vewy bad word.
 
Well maybe not but there might be some young persons reading these and I don't want to teach young people curse words. :wink:

Frankly, I don't give a damn. It's not my job to babysit some other person's kid. If the person is going to be so lax as to have the internet babysit their child, that is quite indicative of very problematic parenting. Therefore, anything I do is nothing compared to that, and actually might result in a few heads uncorking.

That is also on top of the fact that no child should be reading this forum.
