Fallout 2 intelligence and mentats

Hey, I know mentats raise the intelligence by 2 points and then it is reduced by 2 points, but if i have an intelligence of 9 and take them, that would give me 11 intelligence, but that is not possible, does the game record that internally or not? will i have 8 or 9 points after the effect wears off?

Yes, the game will write it internally and you will have your 9 points of int back
