Fallout 2 interface stopped responding

The interface buttons on Fallout 2 stopped working. That includes the hotkeys. I can still interact with items and characters in the game world, but I can't change weapons, manually enter combat, open the inventory, access the skilldex, open the game menu, etc.

If it matters any, I'm running the Mac version. Yes. I managed to find the Mac version.

That sounds like a case for a clean install, maybe? That's what I would do; although this may be a "known" bug, it's not one that I know about. Sounds a little like what happened if you quickly entered combat mode and left the vault cave after the game was over in FO1.

I tried reinstalling the game, didn't work. Remember, I'm running the Mac version, so installation is basically dragging the app from disk to my hard drive.

I think the problem is specific to the save file. I tried loading another game and there was no problem.

Incidentally, it happened after the "wrong place at the wrong time" special encounter. I don't know if the special encounter has any effect on the rest of the game, but I don't want to override it just yet, which is why I'm not simply loading a previous save and playing from there.

EDIT: This happens every time I have a random encounter while quick-traveling. I'd really appreciate some more advice. I can't play the game like this.
