Fallout 2 locking up in the opening sequence

First time out of the vault
I borrowed a copy of Fallout 2 from a friend and, after installing it and trying to play, it locks up in the opening sequence. My computer specs are:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Intel Celeron 2.80GHz
2.80 GHz, 248 MB of RAM
Intel (R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller
