First time out of the vault
I have a problem when i attempt to start tht Fallout 2 mapper i error message. It say's (" Couldn't find/load text fonts ") that is exactly what it says word for word. do i have to unzip somethin or what? please answer asap

Make sure the mapper's .cfg file points to the right Fallout 2 files. It's under the [system] thingy.

Here's what it looks like in my .cfg file:

Code:
[system]
art_cache_size=261
cdlock=
color_cycling=1
[b]critter_dat=c:\fallout2\critter.dat[/b]
[b]critter_patches=c:\fallout2\data[/b]
cycle_speed_factor=1
executable=mapper
free_space=0
hashing=1
interrupt_walk=1
language=english
[b]master_dat=c:\fallout2\master.dat[/b]
[b]master_patches=c:\fallout2\data[/b]
scroll_lock=0
splash=1
times_run=1

The stuff in bold is what I was talking about.

ok mine looks like this

[system]
art_cache_size=261
cdlock=
color_cycling=1
critter_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\fallout2\critter.dat[/b]
critter_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data[/b]
cycle_speed_factor=1
executable=mapper
free_space=0
hashing=1
interrupt_walk=1
language=english
master_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\master.dat[/b]
master_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data[/b]
scroll_lock=0
splash=1
times_run=1

i also tried just copying yours word for word but that dont work either

If you have more CD/DVD drives, put the cd (or mount the image) in the drive (or virtual drive) you used to install the game.

Just to be sure, Fallout 2 IS installed in the folder "C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2", right?

That would have worked unless your Fallout 2 is installed in "C:\Fallout2"

I'm pretty sure I had the exact same problem as you did in the beginning. I think the problem was with the .cfg file, but I'm not 100% sure.

Hi!
My Mapper doesn't works. When I start it, the screen wents pitch black, like it's loading, and after a few seconds, it's back in the Windows. I had that font problem, but when you extract the master.dat, it doesn't exists any more. But than, there's this pitch-black-and-back-to-Windows problem. Please, help, if you can!

Hi there. Is your HD partitioned in any way? My HD is C with a D backup partition, and I had to install everything in D to have it work. Is your game copy a English/American one? If it's not then you'll have to tinker a bit with Fo2 mapper .cfg file, in order to have it read a different language as the standard one (you'll find around a few posts, no big troubles..). Provided you didn't tinker yet with city/map .txt, make sure you follow the pointers my mates already gave you. As a side note, the complete install lets you run the mapper without the cd (not the game, of course).
Cheers.

Hi,
and thanks for helping. My Hd is partitioned, I got an C and an E drive. I'm trying to install it on the E, and the cfg file matches all points but it still doesn't works. Is this because on the E drive there is not a working Windows? Once there was 2 partitions, with two Operating systems, now it just works as I have two harddrives. Do I have to install the game and the mapper on the C drive, where the Windows is?

Sorry, now I'm at a loss..
My D backup drive works like a separate HD (or so I think) and has no operating system installed.
As far as the install goes I'd go for E, but do give a try to C just the same.
The only other problem I'm aware of it's the mapper requiring at least 300 megs of free space to run. I'd take a look at this.
I hope this helps at least a bit.
Cheers.

I finally figured it out for some reason my Fo2 editor only works if i have the Fo2 disc in.

Edit: Another Question Where exactly do i find Worldmap.txt did a full search on my whole copmputer and i only got worldmap.dat so if anyone could help me with this it would be appreciated.

At least in my pc it is inside data folder,but i think you've got to have a unoficcial update to be there...

Yes, unofficial patches (non .dat versions) will have the worldmap.txt in a folder.

In your case, either extract the official 1.02 patch dat file or extract the ones that comes from the master.dat

hmmm so if i want to install the fixed world map i have to extract the official 1.02 dat file to install it? or should i just create a DATA/data folder. It seems im not very good at installing mods....
(If only all mods had installers!!)

Installation : Copy Worldmap.txt into C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\DATA\Data

Note : You may want to back up the original worldmap.txt

anyway i will try to extract the 1.02 now

Oh, well you could just create the file hierarchy and put in the fixed world map. However, the game check dat files before it does folders, so if you are using the official 1.02 patch then that worldmap file will be used instead.

I cant seem to figure this stuff out!!! hmmm im not sure how to extract my master.dat when i click open with i choose winrar and i get a message that says "file is either uknown format or damaged"
i dont know mayb i will try to use a different thing to extract now that i think of it i might have just the thing.

No, you must use a dat file extractor to do this.

Grab one here:

ok so now i extract all the master.dat to my fallout 2 directory?

Edit - Alright i think i figured it out!!

Thank you for your help and your patience (spelling?) with me.
