Fallout 2: Memory Bug

TaoQiBao

First time out of the vault
When entering the very western part of Klamath I get a black screen. With some skills and patience I even figured out how to get to the error message:

The instruction at 0048d9c4 referenced memory ar 00000016

I run the game under WinXP Home SP3. Compatibily mode and stuff doesn't change anything. Disabling the video card doesn't help.

Game is 1.2 and I tried Killap's unofficial patch to fix issues. Doesn't work with or without Killap's patch.

After extensive use of the SEARCH function I found this from DAREK to SIRGCAL:

Do you by chance have the german Fallout 2?

Well, yes, as a matter of fact, I do. So what? Any idea?

PS: I create this extra thread because the discussion in the original thread has moved on and to my knowledge there has not been any response to the alleged German version issue.

Well, I believe you need to get the Blutpatch or Gore patch since the German version was censored (crippled). I don't think there's any link to the patch here on NMA, but you should be able to Google it.
Or it may be enough to set the game violence level to none or minimum, IIRC.

Actually, there's a lot of blood and gore in my German version. Turning the violence level down does not solve my problem. What's so bloody about entering this area anyway?

Well, I'm assuming we are talking about Klamath Canyon (vertibird area), right? The map contains an Enclave soldier cut in half and one burnt to cinders.
The German version removed children and some violent art and animations. I don't have a German version myself so I can't tell you what exactly is missing. Just try it with the blood patch.

I found this thread, which you may find interesting.
