[Fallout 2] NCR Carlson Mission Problem

First time out of the vault
Hello,

I hope I've posted this in the correct forum.

I can't seem to gain access to Calson's estate in NCR. Using the Presidential Pass on the guard outside gives the message "That does nothing".

Talking to Merk, he says he has a job as a bodyguard, waiting a week and then talking to the guard does nothing.

Also using repair on the forcefield gives the message "You cannot repair that".

Has something been changed in the restoration project/unofficial patch?

This was a clean install with the latest versions and a new game started.

I'm using:

killap's unofficial Fallout 2 patch - April 10, 2010 (1.02.26b)
killap's Falllout 2 Restoration Project - April 6, 2010 (2.0.2d)
Windows XP

Thank you for any help :)

Grab the 2.0.2e patch from the first post in the RP 2.0 thread. You also need to enter the map with the Carlson guard for the first time for the fix to take affect. So hopefully you have a save that is a little bit back from where you are.

Hi killap

I installed the version you suggested and see that it includes a fix for my problem but I don't have an earlier save.. oh well.

Thanks for your help anyway and keep up the good work!

Cheers :)

I might be totally off base here, but isnt using the UNofficial patch + RP a BIG no-no? Or has that been changed?

Using the unofficial patch with the RP is useless, because the unofficial patch is _in_ the RP.

You just have to install Fallout 2 and right after the latest version of the RP with latest RP patch, if one is available.

R u sure about it being benign? I mean, i agree that everything from unofficial patch is IN the RP, but arent some things a bit different coding wise cause of the scope of RP (i.e. new quests)?

You didn't understand me. The restoration project is based on the unofficial patch. So it makes no sense to install the unofficial patch before the rp or after the rp. The rp itself is the only thing you need to install, if you want to play the rp.

Also it is "are you" and not "R u". This short 'forms' are so annoying.

So Elitech has truth to what he says. While installing the RP on top of the unofficial patch should be completely harmless, some people seem to have encountered problems. Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but w/e. As such, the general rule of thumb is to not install the unofficial patch if you plan to use the RP. The RP comes with the patch, so there is no point anyway to install both.
