Fallout 2 Patch/Mod Install Order

Fortain

First time out of the vault
Hi there. I'm starting a fresh install of Fallout 2, and I wanted to make sure I installed all the patches/mods in the right order. I'm running WinXP w/SP2, the latest DirectX drivers, and will be using the older (v1.00) Fallout 2 disk.

The patches I want to use are: the v1.05 & v1.05.1 patches, the "Loot the Armor" patch, and the "Encounter Booster" patch. I know that I'll need MOD Runner for the LtA mod, but MOD Runner says it needs v1.02d's patch000.dat to run. Is there a way to have that file in the Fallout 2 directory, and still use the v1.05.1 patch? Anything else I'm forgetting?

Thanks in advance for any info. :)

1.051 patch by Celestial (are you using the version I integrated?) contains the 1.02d's data, so there's no need to worry about that.

However, the various mod may run into conflicts, so one or more of them might not run properly. This is nearly always an issue if you run multiple mods.

The best thing you could do would be to unpack all the mods using DAT Explorer to be found in the Files section) and then copy them all to the data folder, overwriting all previous files, in the given order:

Celestial's mod, armour mod, encounter booster. This will eliminate the need for Modrunner and having a patch000.dat, but you won't be able to play a normal game until you delete and reinstall Fallout 2.

I didn't see a version of Celestial's v1.05.1 that you did, unless it was named differently. I was just using the ones on the Fallout 2 Patches page. If there is one, and I'm being blind & not seeing it, can you please point me to it?

I knew that Celestial's patch contained the official patch with it, along with her other fixes. I also figured that it might be a compatibility problem with the mods, but I wanted to make sure I installed everything in the right order to minimize that problem.

So, to fix the problem, I should uninstall & reinstall Fallout 2, then use DAT Explorer to unzip and copy over (in order) the: v1.05 patch & v1.05.1 patch (or the intergraded version you mentioned); LtA mod; EB mod; overwriting all the files when asked. Is this correct?

It's listed as F2 patch 1.05 Update1

This compatibility issue leads to a need for a new utility that would simply compare the directory trees inside the DATs and list all conflicts. Or is there something that does that already? Sure would be useful. I've got several area mods that could be combined, but just overwriting one over the other doesn't sound like a viable solution.

I used a "directory compare" utility to see what FRMs were different between FO1 and FO2, it would also work for mod comparisons. Can't remember the name but there are several tools like this available.

I know about that one - I already mentioned it in the above post. I didn't know if there was a patch (done by Silencer) that incorporated both 1.05 & 1.05.1. Also, v1.05 is 5.1Mb, while v1.05.1 is 75Kb, showing that you'd need 1.05 for 1.05.1 to work.

There is, FAME. When you use it to run mods it will list all conflicts before running(FAME can't handle them).
