Fallout 2 Qs

First time out of the vault
After all the hype involving Fallout 3 I decided to play through Fallout 1/2 after so many people talked about them as their favourite RPGs of all time.. anyway I've a few questions for avid fans.

1) For Fallout 2 what patches should I install for my first time? Any mods like the Restoration Project?

2) Should I play through Fallout 1 first? does it matter?

3) Is there a patch or something I need to run to get them to work on Windows XP?

4) Any bugs/things I should know about to look out for before I start playing?

Thanks :)

1) Well, if you bought the new Fallout Trilogy you would have all the patches needed in there (Killap's Unofficial Patch and Restoration Patch are in there IIRC).

2) Well, there are quite a few references to what happens in Fallout 1. I'd also suggest playing Fallout 1 first because if you play Fallout 2 first you will get too used to the conveniences in the engine and it will be a bit hard to get used to followers trapping you in doorways.

3) It should work if you got it from a recent source such as Fallout Trilogy or GOG.com

4) If it's all patched there should be no 'game breaking' bugs at least.

i didnt know killaps stuff was kinda official...must be if its on the discs. the restoration project includes the 1.0225 patch doesnt it? i only installed the patch and not the project, would there be any problem in installing the project over the top or should i uninstall and reinstall? havent started playing yet...onkly reason i didnt install the project was from reading the thread on it, it seemed there was loads of broken stuff and filled with bugs.

and 5) why is the default theme here so ugly? ashRetro looks 1000x times better!

looks worse imo..blinds me! the default one aint exactly pretty but i guess it fits in with the Fallout theme...

once i have uploaded holodisks to my pipboy can i just sell them? will npcs still know i have the information?

I got a fuzzy painting as well, is that useless for anything?

whats this about? I got a "chem" text on the main page as well. how do i get rid of it and does it affect me in any way? Im not sure what radaway craving has to do with beserker though..

hmm dunno if you already figured out this, but either you took up some radaway and got addicted or you dont have killap's patch and activated the alarm in sierra army base, if its the later case you dont have to worry because it doesnt have effect of a "real" radaway addiction (and as Per's guide says, you actually have protection against the real radaway addiction)

btw, you cheater

:? what do u mean? I never cheat in games don't see the point and I didn't start with this...well apart from reading the odd walkthrough which i did too much for fallout 1. But playing Fallout 2 now just started it and won't be touching one.

I think he's refering to the fact that your SPECIAL stats are way to high (Even with Gifted) unless you are wearing power armor and used all the modules available which at your current level seems suspicious.

Drugs maybe? Cause without them these SPECIAL really seem high

Doable with 2-3 Gain Foo perks and everything else in the game that raises stats.

well i dont know WHY they are so high but i have never cheated in this game unless u count reading a walkthrough as cheating..

You can sell the holodisks, the relevant entries remain in the PipBoy. I usually sold them in the Hub library. The Mutant Transmissions holodisk is a quest item, I believe, as well as the Regulator Transmissions.

the Fuzzy Painting is just a keepsake. Such were Fallout collectables before the bobbleheads ;)

DON'T post two posts in a row, edit the previous one.

You finished the game at level 13? Fallout 1 or 2?

Man, you missed almost half of the game if you finished that low.

I usually reach the level cap in FO1 before doing the Military Base and in FO2 I finish usually at levels 24-26 depending on random encounters. (28-30 with the RP 1.2)

Actually, for Fallout 1 it's not that low, if you skip some of the fighting and don't farm Deathclaws in the Rippers area.

yeah its Fallout 1 and i did every area, dunno about every quest but must have done most of em.

hey, about the cheater, i was just messin around with you :D.

so the stats are from fallout 1?

if it is, its weird, because if you do "all" quests you reach lv 15 before you start the boneyard (it was the last area for me before Military base and Cathedral), also no counting random encounters
