[Fallout 2] The problem with the Slag's quest.

John Cassidy Joestar

First time out of the vault
I've been playing F2 for years, but I never tried to attack head on the slags with a low level character.
But this time, I have a specific build that can take most of the first towns easily, my character was Neutral Evil Aligned, and I had the quest to investigate on who those Slags were. I like the concept of mutant light sensitive and how does kind of people wuth this type of disabilities can survive or even thrive under their condition, but I have a problem with the quest design.

Jo described my character that the farm was full of blood, people sticked on poles and ghosts, I arrived at night and I was met with Slag guards who promptly said "Surrender or die!". Given no choice, my character choose to retaliate against what could be murderers described by Jo but I got bad karma just for defending myself. After that "meeting", I could'nt ask for the help of Jo to attack the farm and finish of the Slag, so I had to erradicate them myself, which is really bad yes but Modoc were in need of a farm and they attacked me. After doing that I was met with this hypocritical message from Jo. I felt that this quest is really cheap when it comes to morality and karma, the rest of the game is top notch when it comes to moral dilema but their I couldnt play a neutral evil character in this situation.

Hmm that does seem pretty shoddy, although you did put it upon yourself to go on a one man murder spree so his dialogue whilst a tad over-sympathetic isn't that off-base. I suppose the fault comes at the "Surrender or Die!" part - you should be able to report that you were nearly captured and they were armed with ill-intent.

Well I would understand Jo's reaction to my character's action, but Jo is the same dude willing to kill everyone (women and children included) for their crops after you give them the Slag's letter. Just because Karl cant be seen anywhere and that there are "people" sticked on some poles around the farms.
If I could just report about that I was nearly captured like you said then yes it would be fine, but sadly I cant and my character is forced to kill everyone because I refused to surrender.

I’ve done that before and f I remember correctly the rest of the town seems to act like they went in and killed the slags with you. This path isn’t really taken into account by the game, save that piece of dialogue from Jo.
