Fallout 2 Virtual Machine Fullscreen/Mouse Problems

First time out of the vault
Hey there,

I'm trying to get FO2 to run on a virtual XP in VMWare. Host OS Is Win 7.

Under Win7 Fallout2 often crashes completely (mostly during combat) and there is nothing left to do but hit the resetbutton on the Pc. For I have not found any approach to solve this, I installed a virtual XP in VM.

I was able to solve the uber-high mouse sensitivity problem by adding the
"vmmouse.present = "FALSE"
line to my vmx file.

After that, fallout ran in a small window of I guess 800x600 with thick black borders all around. That I could fix with the high resolution patch.

However, one major problem persits that I could not fix, yet.
The mouse only responds correctly in an (imaginary) window of (again, this is a guess) appr. 800x600. If I move the mouse out of the middle, it quickly jumps "out of" the virtual machine.
The cursor changes from fallout cursor to windows cursor and in Fullscreen mode is stuck at the border.
Essentially, I can not use the fallout cursor around the edges of the screen. This makes the game unplayable, for these edges are about as thick as the title menu when I run FO2 in 1280x1024 (using hi-res patc).

Does anyone have experience with using FO2 in a Virtual MAchine and was able to solve this?

I am greatful for any hints on this topic :)

You can try sfall and either mess with the graphics mode and/or the backgroundmouse setting.

Hello,

this thread is six years old, but might help me. I have the instruction-error when I enter a specific area in Fallout 2 and none of the many solutions I found in the internet worked. Now I tried the virtual PC, but the mouse-sensitivity is so high, I can't even load a game. Any idea how the guy who made this thread solved it? I put his line in the vmcx-file I start the virutal PC with, but that didn't change a thing. Any idea?
