Fallout 2 XP World Map speed.

Otay

First time out of the vault
Hey All,

This may prrobably have already been brought up before, but when I travel on the world map I travel like 20 times faster than I used to when I played Fallout 2 some 6 years ago. Its like lightning fast... From NCR to Vault City within 10 seconds.

Is there a way to make it travel the proper speed?

Thanks,

Otay

Below info is a bit weird. On my C: drive installation of Fallout 2 I have C:/Program Files/Black Isle/Fallout/Data/worldmap.dat

The only Worldmap.txt I see is the one the download has, I am not sure if I just extraxt the Worldmap.txt file in to the Data folder?
And I also don't have double "Data?" "C:/Program Files/Black Isle/Fallout/Data/" Thats what I have.

I've tried opening the Worldmap.dat file within the data folder with notepad and editing but that doesn't make sense.

Whats the exact way I suppose to apply this?

Encounter boost is a fix for Fallout 2. Alot of people have too fast pc now days to actually encounter anything between towns on worldmap in Fallout 2.

Its just a tweaked Worldmap file. Place it inside fallout2/data/data/worlmap.txt foulder. It should look something like this C:/prgram files/blackisle/fallout/data/data/worlmap.txt asuming you have fallout 2 instaled on C: disk inside program files foulder. Old save files will work with this fix too.

It also works with all known Fallout 2 patches. So if you have patch000 it shouldnt be a problem. If you dont see no difference in encounters with the fix than try removing patch000 from your Fallout 2 folder.

Is that patch ok? I read through it and it seems that alot doesn't work... Does it change much to the appearence in the game itself?

Don't worry, it creates a new executable and doesn't delete your old one. If the patch doesn't work, delete the executable it creates, something like "Fallout2.exe.000.exe" and use your original file.

The other thing is that you are not going to bother with the resolution changes (which are the part of the patch that don't work), simply choose 640x480. Playing with the world map speed slider shouldn't affect anything else.

So effectively nothing should change apart from beind able to change the world map speed? Visually also?

That is what I just said. Simply make sure to choose "640x480" on the prompt that comes up. Visually, nothing will change.

It also might take several attempts to find the correct setting for the speed slighter, don't be afraid to experiment.
