Fallout 3 Environment: Creatures, Climate, and Trees

First time out of the vault
I've been thinking for a bit on this. Fallout 3 is going to be set on the East Coast, rather than it's traditional West. Assuming that time has not shifted the landscape radically, we're going to be seeing a radically different setting for F3. Instead of Radscorpions and Deathclaws, we're going to be seeing mutant bears and possibly cougars. Also, something that's been lacking from the last games (Though it may be lacking from this one too, Nuclear War and all) would be more forests, mountains, and snow. Any thoughts/speculation on this new section of America?

I like the mutated bears idea some people may use them as some sort of cavalry, But on a serious note I would like some mutated tree's with the environment being more of a hazard such as in winter you can get caught in snow storm's and die type stuff.

Edit:

This is quite possibly the best Fallout 3 question I have seen in a while.

mutated bears ? and animal mounts sounds a bit too much like fantasy to me ... sci fi is ok but i'd love it to be focused more around humans :D but thats just me

The mutated bears was a reference to a picture on another post, just type Bear cavalry into google image search and you will see what I mean.

Well, this is somewhat assuming this is set after Fallout 2, but there probably will be more people this game, barring some sort of Children of Men scenario. But on the other hand, nature will begin to retake alot of those cities vaults weren't in, as well as wreck roads in terms of automotive travel (A decent dirt bike might work nicely though.) Along the Appalachias, travel is almost completely dependant on tunnels or treacherous mountain passes, which could really affect travel, or provide a good base for raiders and highwaymen.

I will be pretty impressed with Beth if they factor seasons into F3, but if they do, we're going to see much more of a focus on the Outdoorsman skill.

No, aaarrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh, not MORE trees. The atmosphere in Fallout 2 was pretty much killed be all the damned trees. A post apoc world should just be that - post apoc. To many trees distract from that.

And i don't buy the logic of 'the world would have healed itself and nature would have restored itself'. Bollocks, i say. Oh, i know, let's make a Fallout 4 set one million years after Fallout 1. The world would've restored itself. No wasteland anymore, maybe a ruined vault and nothing to point to a post-apoc setting anymore aside from some references in something like holodiscs.

The talk about new creatures reminded me of a Post apocalyptic PnP game I ran many years ago when I was a teenager. I seems cheesy now but my favourite wilderness creatures where giant trap door spiders and mutated wolf/dogs with a pack hive mind.

One other thing was the world of Fallout 2 purely post apoc? I always thought there was substantial "reclaiming the world" influence to the settling, especially in the south of the map, too much new stuff had been built down there for it to meet my definition of post apoc.

Thinking about it I consider Post apoc to be a chronologically brief setting. Sure it could be stretched out but each generation would have to number less than the last, otherwise the world is rebuilding itself.

Edit: Remember reading somewhere (may be wrong) that the Russian nukes had a 3 in 4 expected failure rate (due to counter measures, inaccuracy, mechanical failure etc) so in fallout there would theoretically be a lot of radioactive elements around.

I would like to see mutant zombie dogs or something along the lines of the Doberman zombies in resident evil... Hmmmm...I sure hope they don't have pig rats in F3 I always hated the looks of those things... Oh, yeah and I agree no trees! If there would be any trees they would be dead looking and old like on F1 and F2.
