FALLOUT 3 FREEZING.

First time out of the vault
Before I start this, I'll just say that I'm not a huge gamer. I play the odd RPG when I find one I like, but I'm not too into it. Saying that, I finally bought an Xbox last January, and in March Fallout 3 and Skyrim began to freeze whenever I opened a saved game or started a new one. After weeks of trying to solve this, I just gave up. I wasn't until a month ago that I tried Fallout again and selected new game. To my surprise it worked! I played for a month and everything seemed to be fine until a couple hours ago when it randomly froze. Not thinking this was a big deal since we all know it does a lot of this, I just restarted the game and OOPS, wouldn't you know? Now it freezes at the "Please Stand By screen" and will not go past that no matter what. I tried everything I've so far found on the internet. I reset the system cache, I emailed Bethesda and they said to do the Left Right bumper X hold down to reset the game cache which doesn't work because it freezes on startup. I signed up for a live account to get patches, but it freezes immediately so I can't get them either. Other disks work, so I don't think it's a disk reading problem and the fact that it worked fine today doesn't make me believe it's the disk. Anyways, I've gotten pretty far into the game compared to last time, so I've done everything besides delete my current game file... and if I do that I might as well just not play anymore because it's not worth starting over. Hopefully it's not corrupted. Please tell me what you think it is, thanks in advance.

You need tomake multiple save games when playing the game.
Some get corrupted and make the game crash( it happened to me)
Load up an earlier save game

you also want to turn off auto save and keep your total number of save slots to 4 or less (on Xbox).

You should also clear the cache periodically by restarting and holding the A button down. This will also get rid of the fall through the roof glitch in "The Pitt"

It does sound like a corrupted save tbh. The advice given is your best bet. Hopefully you have an earlier save to fall back on. That is a must with these games.

Of course I jinxed myself with the whole "it isn't a disk reading problem" because now whenever I try to play it says "Xbox cannot read this disk"...

Edit: Never mind, it's working again but still only up to the "Please Stand By" screen. I guess what I'm gonna have to do is somehow move or delete my current save file and see if that's the problem, but I doubt it because it won't even get to the title screen to load the game, it freezes at the opening.

Have you tried another game to make sure the Xbox isn't crapping out? That may be a disc read problem. Oblivion did a similar thing when my Xbox was going out, but it could be a problem with the disc too. A save issue wouldn't give you that problem...

Playing fallout 3 in a console is rather unnatural for me in a way but anyways try to clean up your disk , or insert it again , some of my old games take 3 or 4 times to boot up after getting that error.

I just threw in some NHL game that someone left at my house years ago and it worked fine.... This cancels out a disk/xbox. I know! What do you think?

WillisPDunlevey : never had a problem with multi saves, clear my saves out when the get to the 100 mark

op: Mine freezes when loading DLC @ start screen if i use ( A ) instead of actual start button to select the memory location, hope this helps.

Never happens when I just have vanilla loaded on hard drive only.

Why don't you trade your Xbox in for a PS3. I had the very same problem, but when I did that it never happened again. Best damn move I ever made.
