Fallout 3 HtH Combos

While I wouldn't put it past Bethesda to skullfuck the design concepts of the series (one need only look at the depths they've plumbed with their own IP), and despite their best efforts of pandering to the lowest common denominator, I at the same time don't think they are competent enough to fully court that mainstream demographic with Tekken style HtH battles just yet.

My 2 cents, and apologies for the run on sentence.

hand to hand combos.
I'm kind of confused here... what exactly do you mean by combos?
And what exactly do you mean by proper training?

And what is Tekken? Is it some sort of Mortal Kombat or something?

It's called turn-based combat. If you're doing more than one action per turn, you are ALREADY doing combos.

So when I was able to shoot a gun twice in the same round in F1 or F2 I was doing combos?
I do have a rather vague idea of what he meant by 'combos' but I was waiting for him to blurt out the whole thing before pouncing on him...

Yes. The more APs you have per turn, the faster you perform the actions.

Unless you think of combos as simultaneously executed attacks (which doesn't really make sense), the analogy works perfectly.

If you had 20 APs, you'd have the equivalent of bullet time.

APs

FO3 perk:
Max Payne_ you win 20 more APs!

However i think the combos is kind of of: 10 aps to hayamker-palmstrike-powerkick-piercingstrike. Or something that combine multiple hth in one and that block the enemy to fight back until finished (after some kind of UN roll), not only the FO2 "combos" Haymaker-haymeker-aimed haymaker

I remember seeing an interview of JE Sawyer stating that HtH combos were going to be implemented in Van Buren. Decided to look it up in the Fallout wikia and found these:

The moves could be split into these groups: hand attacks, hand combos, foot attacks, foot combos and hand-foot combos. For example, the character could have Jab, Cross, Uppercut, Elbow Smash, Backhand, Sucker Punch, Spearhand, and Ridgehand as standard hand attacks, each with their own AP cost, bonus or penalty to hit, DT modifier, and damage. However, the character could also gain "two-in-one" combos.

For instance, Jab-Elbow. The combo would do both moves, each at a different hex. The Jab would go into the targeted hex, and the Elbow Smash would go into the hex back and to the right. The combo would cost less AP than both moves individually, but it would be at a lower chance to hit with each attack, and would incur a fatigue cost. Another combo might be Cross-Backhand-Ridgehand, hitting the first hex targeted, the hex to the right, and the hex two more to the right.

Kicks could have the same general layout (with different moves, of course). The kicks don't even have to be crazy wire-fu'ed out. They can just be regular ol' kicks. Snap Kick, Axe Kick, Roundhouse, Back Kick, Side Kick, Hook Kick, etc. You could have the same sorts of combos. Roundhouse-Hook, Side-Back, Snap-Side-Axe.

The most complex combos would only be available when the character was fighting with no equipment in either hand, allowing hand-foot combos that could hit four, five, or even six hexes.

no offense ThCola, that is the most retarded idea i've ever heard. for real. Go jump in with the rest of Bethesda's fanboi's over at their forums... not ours.

Well, the idea of having more HtH attacks than just kick and punch is pretty good, but I wouldn't go into combos or some Matrix-wall-running-tricks-whatsoever. Dunno what would those attacks be, though x]

Hth combos

I think he's not saying about wall running Jedi combos... Something like a boxe sequence (they trow 6/9 punches in the same time you would punch 3 in fallout!), AND non-reaction capacity (who the hell can attack after 1 groin kick, 3 stomach punches and 1 head punch?)

(who the hell can attack after 1 groin kick, 3 stomach punches and 1 head punch?)
The question is who could stand after receiving that first kick...
But also think of the agility, strength and skill needed to be able to perform moves like that and manage to hit all the right places...
There might be something good in this idea but it can sure use a lot of polishing.
