An online ability for Fallout3 would be awesome. It would kinda be like Baldur's Gate were one person is his/her NPC and another person is his/her NPC. They could join groups or do different tasks for each other and stuff. Think of the possiblities....

Does Baldur's Gate even compare to Fallout or PS:T with terms of game design or playability? Or RPG quality?

Not really.

Because when you put in multiplayer capability, it detracts from the strength of the RPG. I have yet to find a REAL CRPG that features an "online" capability and keep the feel of the 1st-player game.

Yeah....let's turn Fallout into a Diablo or Badur's Gate.

On the other hand, let's not, and enjoy a good RPG for what it is.

RE: Aw, hell...not again....

What's your problem? While Diablo is an RPG only by a long stretch of the imagination, Baldur's Gate certainly is (discussing it's merits is off-topic, though).

Personally, I'd love to be able to hook with a couple of my buddies and go exploring the Fallout 2 world together. At least they wouldn't be sitting in the doorways blocking my path all of the time.

This way you could get a party of specialists - a diplomat, a shooter, a medic/scientist. You could do most of the quests, limited only by your alignment and not your stats/skills.

This does NOT mean any substantial changes in single-player mode, so the single-player would still be there for those who want to go out into the wastes by themselves.

All this said, I personally DO prefer the single-player mode and I consider any kind of multi-player capability way back on the need-to-implement list

RE: Aw, hell...not again....

So you want to remove the roleplaying choices by having each player have a specialty character?

Um... no. Read my post.

What I said is that it might be a fun thing to do when and if you want to share pacifying the wastelands with a couple of friends. The game itself would be the same. AFAIK, This is the same concept as BG (I only played a few hours of BG multiplayer and I saw no difference between multi and singleplayer).

You still have the single-player game to try out in all the different ways possible.

Anyway, I'm kind of new on this board and I've apparently touched on a very sensitive topic, so I'll abstain from posting on such topics for a while. Mentioning the word "multiplayer" seems to be a certain way of getting flamed.

Just for the record, I'll say again: I am no fan of multiplayer games and I couldn't care less if FO3 has multiplayer included or not. I do think that things shouldn't be rejected off-hand "just because".

Here's an old message that dealt with your question/topic:

RE: Aw, hell...not again....

I reckon it would be pretty cool if the progammers did a Fallout online only game like Everquest or Ultima online. That way the game would be much more fun, as we're interacting with fellow Player characters rather than NPC's with scripted lines (and dumb AI)

RE: Aw, hell...not again....

Ahh the good old days of online/multiplayer argumnets. Thoes are so much fun to debate about.

*Okay, here is what Online games are.*

Online games have their attractiveness in the idea that you will meet people who share your same interest and will provide a dynamic atmosphere to an RPG. "Real" people interacting with one another, where the next Raider you meet may be some guy from Scandinavia, or France, or just the next state over, assuming you live in the USA.

You want to see New Reno pimps but with human personalities, personalities you can talk to. Real nice.

However like governments, it is all theory. In real life you have real people. The "human"-factor comes into play, the chaotic destructor of order, of what is good. THAT is what happens to online games.

Instead of a good atmosphere, you have *humans*. The people don't take on the roles of characters in Fallout, they're the same losers, lamers, spammers, and worthless scum you find in the *real* world. They feel that by paying for their game they have the right to ruin your experience. You won't see prostitutes lining the walkways of New Reno, you'll see empty streets where some ass decided to genocide the town after acquiring a Vindicator in San Francisco. THAT'S what happens.

No atmosphere at all.

If you want an "online" experience, go join the roleplaying board. There you will find people in character, who you can interact with.

Go there.
