I'm writting a screenplay for Fallout 3 and I'd like people's opinion on whether it should take Fallout Tactics into consideration as far as the timeline. What do you think?

No trash-talking, lower-case prone, ignorant, self-centered, 'in-your-face', 'i-am-always-right-so-you-can-suck-my-dick', 'shit-for-brains' idiots allowed.

Depends...

on where the story takes place. The BOS in FO:T are part of a splinter faction that is located in the middle U.S., as you probably already know. If the demo is any indication, their interaction with local towns and villiages is influencial. However, it's not known whether it's widespread. I wouldn't include them if I were you, though-- I'm a bit of an FO purist, so my vote may be swayed, but..

Well....

Too many things about Tactics are making me quite ill. No offense to Chris, because he's been through the series, but MicroForte has sold Fallout a bit short. I hope it gets forgotten, really. Perhaps a small mention or something, but it's an example of "Oh, shit, we fucked up!" and hasty backpedalling.

Some reasons why the jaded attitude:

All great series make mistakes...

All great series make mistakes. Minkey island, first two funny as hell, third pig crap, and forth redeems the series's good name.

RE: All great series make mistakes...

Well this is some serious dicking of the dog, screwing the pooch, whatever. But it's a severe screw-up.

It was either some chimp at Interplay that gave the okay for the concept work, and didn't have clue one as to what made up Fallout's Universe, or it was MicroForte in the first place not paying attention. It's really a combination of the two.

I'm not the only one who has raised a "What the fuck?" to the new Predator-esque bug armor. The time they saw the first complaint or comment they should have developed a clue. as such, it's taken until a recent interview to aknowledge that 'Well...perhaps we should have made it more retro.' Well, no shit! It takes Proverbius and many others a bit of outrage to get that fact across. And they call themselves game designers when they have not just one, but TWO games to go by, and a good smattering of the old team to talk to, and still screw the pooch. Agreed the genius that was behind the original Fallout is gone, but if it's obvious to the fans, then those who are in a position to DESIGN should have a better clue.

Those brought into the Fallout game scene with this lump of coal are going to wonder what the hell is with the retro look in the RPG games. The tile-art of Tactics is almost laughable, some looking retro, the other looking distinctly Austrailian. Where's it set? Exactly.

The ball they dropped was a live grenade.

RE: All great series make mistakes...

I know how to solve your problem. Currently the game is called
"Fallout Tactics : Brotherhood of Steel" right?
Well, how about a great big "NOT" in front of it so you get...
"NOT Fallout Tactics : Brotherhood of Steel"

Or perhaps a message stuck on the box like you get for cigarettes. Like maybe "ATTENTION: Fallout fans will be extremely disappointed with this game"

Or maybe "NOTE: This game has absolutely nothing to do with Fallout whatsoever."

Or even "NOTE: The designers of this game are Australian. As a result, some of the things contained in this game may not fit in the Fallout Universe and as such will severely disappoint most fans"

Personally, and as an Australian myself, I think they should completely forget about the Brotherhood of Steel link. Maybe it should just become a kind of seperate story set in Australia. You know, like what happened to Australia after the War. Fallout 1 and 2 deal with America and this could be "Fallout: Australia" or something.

But I'd really hate it if they fucked up the story and the wonderful feel of Fallout. Maybe we should just buy the game and store it with that old copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator that we bought those many years ago...
