Fallout 3d licensed Fallout?

For those of you who have followed the Fallout3d project you will remember that they said this project might end up being a licenced Fallout product. Here's what they said:<blockquote>"The ball is already rolling, and it just gets bigger. Let's just say that there are alot more people and machinations going on behind the scenes I just cant let you in on... BUT what it could come down to is a full fledged licensed FALLOUT release, Ron Perlman AND Michael Dorn intact. Everyone just keep your fingers crossed."</blockquote>After a little debate on the Dac forums MeatPoPsicKle clarified:<blockquote>What I am approaching Interplay about is the license to the Fallout name. I believe Micro Forte did this for their Fallout Tactics release. Everyone is speculating about who should get the license, I figured it was about time someone knew just exactly what that entails. I am not trying to finish Fallout3. My game is a completely seperate entity. Since it is set fully within Fallout canon, and it does not take place in the timeline of any of their current or future releases (technically it is set in the past, since it takes place just after Fallout.), it could stand alone as a seperate Fallout title. I am finding out how much the use of the name Fallout and it's associated trademarks cost. I know how much it costs to license the Unreal engine for a release that technically is competition for Unreal. That is a set amount.</blockquote>Aukey...

YAY!! More whoring out of the Fallout license! That's just what I wanted. All we need now is for SilverStyle to make Fallout 3 and we'll really be screwed.

Uh, no. FOT was produced by Interplay and it was Interplay's idea, they just contracted MF to develop it.

KTHXBYE.

its still just a mod... can't hurt usin the name that much, then again.. lets all use the fallout name! im making a post apocalyptic pong game, i been thinkin about calling it Fallout PONG

And I can use LucasArts' X-WING ALLIANCE mission creator pretty well. Maybe I should create a whole new series of battles for the game under the title "FALLOUT ALLIANCE: A Post-Apocalyptic Flight Sim"

Yes, Divine Inspiration has come! The game would start exactly after the Hubologists manage to operate their spacecraft and take off San Fran, only to be attacked by an Imperial Star Destroyer fleeing the battle of Endor. Sounds...exciting

Ugh well that makes some sort of sick sense then that Interplay decided to chuck the Fallout canon out the window right from the gate.

Perhaps we are being naive, and perhaps the possibility of raising $1 mil to make a decent game on a one year dev cycle (we won't count the 3 years plus I have put into it already) isn't feasible. But I think you should know that collectively (and I am not the only person doing all of the work here. Just ask Jota) we at hedonist house have over 30 years collective experience in the software games industry. That hardly qualifies us as naive garage style MODders.

If we cannot get the license, we are going to give it away for free anyway as a MOD for UT2004. You don't have to license anything to release a MOD. Several teams of MODders have moved on to be full fledged software devs. I think you'll find there too though that the people involved are hardly naive or strangers to the software games industry.

And I like you have watched the seemingly endless stream of promising MODs come and go, and very few with any kind of playable anything other than some really spiff screencaps. My team will release as we finish to those of you interested enough in this saga to download, each level as we complete it. You won't have the benefit of the AI botpathing and the quest triggers, but at least you will have a playable level in UT2004. That is all I can promise you.

But I aim to finish this one way or another. I would just like to make it sooner than later so that I can move on to the next project. Which is also a Fallout title FALLOUT:The Great War, a prequel if you like. I am not using or abusing the FALLOUT name to paint up a generic post apoc game, I aim to make this the very epitome of the FALLOUT universe. I label it as such so that others that would enjoy it know just what it is. A story in Fallout.

yeah, pretty exciting indeed.. and the remains of Enclave would reunite remains of Imperium and make Brotherhood of NOD. Using FOBOS as their training program

things you own end up owning you
