Knight In Leather Armor
Badger Nutsack
Ello NMA, I wanted to discuss something or simply rant.
I'll be talking about the Fallout 4 DLC being simply paid mods and how I agree and disagree with it.
Keep in mind this is all my opinion, so dun hurt me too hard pls
Anyways, let's talk about how the recent DLC's in Fallout 4 are considered paid mods.
The biggest example and probably the first is Wasteland Workshop. I haven't actually bought Wasteland Workshop, nor will I. Wasteland Workshop adds in new traps and basically an entire arena mode to Fallout 4. It's kinda stupid, as the trailer depicts the Sole Survivor, after leaving 111, immediately starts trying to tame the local wildlife to their own bidding. Which is... Eh..
Anyways, what does Wasteland Workshop give in exchange for 4.99$ US Money?
It adds the ability to capture and place creatures such as Deathclaws, Mirelurks, and other creatures, including NPC's such as Raiders and even kitty cats.
Now let's compare this mod to the Homemaker mod, a free mod which includes ten times the amount of decorations and new additions to settlements.
It includes decorations from both post-war and pre-war eras and even retextures several buildings such as brick buildings to look better.
With the mod you are capable of placing Institute decorations, refurbished, sanitary, rustic, so many new items such as new walls and everything.
Sadly, Wasteland Workshop adds so much less.
Yes, they do put in the unique feature of capturing enemies and making your own arena, which you could do with Homemaker, but it just isn't up to par with a user created mod. Sadly though, it doesn't matter, as most people defend it because Bethesda made Wasteland Workshop.
What about Automatron? Personally, I think it shouldn't be considered a paid mod like several people say. It's got a meh story with a terribad plot twist, but it offers a lot of customization that's up to par with mods and possibly even better. Building your own robots(with the annoying exception of Eyebots. Bethesda doesn't like ED-E.) is actually really fun and takes a lot of resources to make.
Compare it to Wasteland Workshop. Automatron is a little bit more pricey, but compared to Workshop it's so much better. Wasteland Workshop doesn't do anything but add in a few extra settlement options that feel like they should've been put into the game in the first place.
Tl;dr version? Wasteland Workshop is a paid mod and Automatron is a bit too pricey for how much it offers. Bethesda doesn't care though because they'll probably put in DLC that adds one new gun to the game to fill the 50$.
