Fallout and Fallout 2 strategy guides

Who wrote the official Fallout and Fallout 2 strategy guides? I know that they were at least partly written by the devs. I was wondering if they contain any background information not found in the actual game. I know of at least one such instance:

Fallout 2 strategy guide said:
Deathclaws were originally created to replace humans during close-combat search-and-destroy missions. They were derived from mixed animal stock and then refined by the Master, using genetic manipulation.

No such thing was mentioned in the games themselves, and I' m wondering whether it should be assumed to be canon for the purposes of The Vault wiki.

If any of you know of any other such information in the guides, could you share them? They were never available in Poland, and even where they were available, they're long out of stock.

Edit: I managed to find out that the FO2 one was written by a developer (Matt Norton, Lead Designer), which probably makes it (including the above Deathclaw stuff) canon. The FO2 one was written by some other guy.

Deathclaws were developed to be search-and-destroy weapons? Sound like bullshit to me, to be honest.
Especially when he says "Oh, and I would have taken out the talking Death Claws - that was bad idea that I either came up with or championed (my bad)" here.

Well, even if they were developed to be weapons, it doesn't mean they were talking.

The Master parts sounds even worse to me, anyway - if he experimented on Deathclaws, why didn't any of them defend his lair or support any of his army's actions in any way, as opposed to the floaters and centaurs?

They also have a very different feel to them than the other creations of the Master. There are no weird mutations, it's more of an Ants! effect.
I really don't buy it, especially because he wasn't a lead designer on Fallout, or a designer at all for as far as I can see (even though he says he did some work on the Boneyard, he isn't featured at all on the team page of the old, official Fallout site).
