Fallout Battle Text Problems

I am running fallout 1.1 on XP, with a 3 GHz computer and 510 MB RAM. Everything seemed to be running fine, until I left the vault. The box on the lower left corner isn't showing the battle information. Instead, it shows the yellow bullet, then nothing on on a normal turn. On turns where the target is knocked down or killed, it won't show the damage text, but instead will say "...was knocked down." Now, I tried to get through ignoring this problem, but there are certain instances where it freezes completely. The only way I'm able to get out is by stopping the process. There is an error message that pops up, but I'm not able to see it as the computer screen goes blank. This is automatic when I get poisoned. I believe I'm missing the data (scratched CD perhaps), but can't really figure it out. DosBox does the same thing. Please help

That does sound like a bad CD. Try manually moving over the dat files and see if there's a CRC error.

I moved them over manually fine, but still having problems. I have "critter.dat" "master.dat", and in my data folder, there's "maps" and "sounds". Everything there? Nothing missing? Am I going insane?
