Fallout Tactics mod Fallout: Crusade (1.2)

Replaying this with the 1.2 version. I am not sure I've found any of the new content - it's been a while since I've played but nothing looked particularly unfamiliar except perhaps some dialog about there maybe being a New Church spy in Bloomington (which I haven't gotten anywhere with.)

Man I forgot how much fun the Battlefield is when you get Osbert his power armor and put him as the point of the defense crouching at the front end of the trench with a rocket launcher and an M60. They just keep bunching up and rushing him only to get blown to bits or shredded, haha...

I did have a problem with that battle at the end though - after wiping out all the soldiers on the surface and in the sewers there was no one left but two of the church commanders. Death rushed to his own demise at the hands of Amanda's .50 cal sniper rifle, and I gathered my team to sweep the ruins at the top of the map before finishing off Famine who never left his perch. But up by the wrecked truck my whole squad was slaughtered by automatic fire from invisible opponents. I think I'd seen this before, but only when I tried to exit the sewers by the back entrance near the New Church marshalling grounds. Oh well, I guess Osbert gets to wipe out 2/3 the New Church army by himself again...

There's little new content in the 1.2 version. It was about fixing few minor bugs, polishing stuff, replacing some portraits and adding the novel-like dialogues between companions in the base. The main thing was replacing the tag name preservation "system" with FTSE. And MAYBE fixing the bug with corrupted maps some people have had. Everything else is basically nice to have in comparison to that.

I am happy you enjoyed the Battlefield map. In my playtest run, I was playing a melee character and had Osbert as my only companion. I managed to lose him in the trenches while my PC was running through the sewers. So I grabbed some buffout, cookies and milk and went to kill all the leaders with my power fist. For the first time ever, I found the game really hard, loading a save several times (burst fire from 1 meter hits hard even with combat armor).
I encountered some fire from invisible opponents as well, but they never hit me. So I thought they just do the sound and light effects, but not actually attack. Maybe when I am in a mood to work on the mod again, I will enlarge the map a little and move the invisible, waiting-to-be-spawned enemies somewhere further away from where the player might operate.

Is there any more to the story about the Church spy in Bloomington? I've always wondered if that one guy in his house is just non-plussed about strangers being there uninvited, or if he has an agenda that you might discover if you searched his "owned" storage spaces. But I've never figured out how, beyond just killing him which would probably not be good for my reputation, how I would get into his stuff.

And yeah, I've always felt the LaSalle map was the hardest and Battlefield was the most fun.

There's no gameplay around a spy in Bloomington. Story-wise, there are many spies, conspirators, saboteurs, missionaries and other agents of the New Church operating throughout the Victoria county, trying to achieve their goal with subtlety. The invasion by force is a last resort operation, a plan B, started once the Preacher realizes the mayor's (yours) defensive actions are effective and that he's about to lose the momentum.
The grumpy guy in Bloomington is just a neighbor who doesn't like you for whatever reason. When a container is marked as owned, you can steal from it like from any other NPC.

La Salle is supposed to be hard (that is if you decide to wipe TNC). I really wanted the players to be sneaky, as assaulting a fortified town full of soldiers with a handful of guys is extremely unrealistic. That being said, I myself hate stealth missions in combat-oriented games. I only enjoyed sneaking through the base in the last playthrough because I wanted the player, present me to beat the creator, past me in the game. I didn't remember patrol routes or timing. The stealth boy helped me get past the bottleneck, the rest was actually quite easy once I did some scouting. BTW there are two stealth boys in the game, so you can use one to get in and the other to get out. You will get one automatically, the other? Well, it's out there somewhere ;)
