Make sure you downloaded the Windows compatible demo, not the dos one.
The demo should say something like FALLOUTW.exe or FALLOUTWINDEMO.exe not DOS4GW.exe or FALLOUTDOS.exe.
Fallout runs perfectly in XP Btw.

Right-click and select Properties on the executable of the demo. Then go to the Compatibility tab and select the compatibility for 95 or 98 and try again. If it keeps giving more problems, try reading the sticky troubleshooting post above.
Also, don't believe the following garbage. It might apply to them and their system, but not an absolute.

Just to play the story more than anything else - but why does the demo run so slow on XP compatibility mode?
I'm running on XP Home and can run all the Fallouts perfectly.
Unfortunatly i don't have the specs to hand so if you have any ideas without knowing them i'd be grateful.

Depends on both the compatibility mode and the computer, as I've had it run fast still in any mode. There really is nothing reliable about this, and until we can set up a database to classify these problems, there really hasn't been any reasonable connection so far I hope to have this fixed for the future..
Fallout Demo help
I ordered Fallout 1,2, and tactics a few days ago(hearing this game is awesome) and I am waiting for it to come, so I decided that I would try the demo while waiting. I need help though because I can't get it to work on my computer(Windows XP), now I know that there are ways to get it to work if you have the actual game but I have the demo right now and when I click the launcher it just has a black screen. Could anybody help me please
