i've just replayed fallout 1. i started it in the morning, and finished it at night. so the first thing is, it's short. and there are really just a few places to go. and i find it relatively easy. after you go to the glow, you get all the items, plasma rifle, gatling laser, minigun, power armor, anything, and you're all set. later you can even enchance them, but you'll hardly find an enemy which requires more than 2 or 3 shots. hell, i shot the master with 4 or 6 shots (can't remember exactly), and the lieutenant with 3 or 4. with a turbo plasma rifle.
to be honest, the only hard thing about the game was keeping my company alive. they get 2 bursts or a rocket and they're gone. especially dogmeat. i ended up leaving tycho and ian in lost hills and pumping dogmeat with stimpacks all the time, but besides this, hunting down the whole gang was really really easy. it was always out of question whether i can survive and kill everyone, it was only doubtable whether my helpers can also make it or not.
here's my character, right before i left the exploding military base to go to the final dialogue with the observer:
in fact, my perception was 10, but i got an eye shot and i didn't seem to be able to fully recover, but it was 4 after the injury so it's still very good. as you can see, i didn't even need my skill points anymore. and i hoped for a higher level, but i can never get much higher, even though i do all the important quests.
i said nothing positive until now. and yet, all i can say, f1 is great. i find it better than f2 (and f3 is something i don't consider worth talking about). it represents the post-apocalyptic trauma soooo well. when yo go to the glow, or the cathedral. damn, i had to turn up the lights (in my room) when i was in the glow, coz it was so dark especially with that music, it started to freak me out. f1 is unbelievably good at this, and i never feel this when i play f2. that's somehow too bright, too... civilized. everything is so ordinary. i can spend a hell lot more time with it, but still, it doesn't give me the same level of "shock" (in a positive sense).
apparently f2 is way more popular than f1 so most people either don't agree with me or they just don't like the highly depressed mood that f1 provides. what are your thoughts?
