Fallout: Hawaii

Sublime

Still Mildly Glowing
I'm bored so I developed this stupid idea of mine.

Player character starts as a castaway after a shipwreck. If you were a passanger, a crew member or even the captain is up to you to decide, just like your back story.

After a short tutorial taking place on the beach, you are led by robots to a nearby facility, the VRC (vulcanologic research center). Controlled by a ZAX units, it was one of the few civilian prewar applications of advanced AI. The aim of the facility was to create a predictive model that would allow to know when the Volcano would erupt precisely. Once the player has reached the research center he is informed by the central computer that the eruption is imminent and that inhabitants of the nearby islands are to be evacuated as sono as possible.

Of course things aren't so easy, as to orchestrate the evacuation different resources (conveniently distributed among the various tribes/factions) will have to be gathered, so the player character needs to persuade into cooperation or gain the resources in another manner. If one believes a group is harmful or more trouble than its worth, then it can be left to die or wiped out. (Ending would depend on tour choices)
Saving your own ass is also a possibility of course.

So far this is what I've come up with. I'm not sure the Volcano should be the main antagonist, perhaps it ought to be more of a local threat. But then again all of this is entirely speculative.

A few miscellaneous ideas:

There's an island controlled by a Pre war scientist, whose expertise ranged from bioengineering to computer sciences. The USA government offered him scientific facilities and all he needed for experimentations (including the natives, of course). He's a part of the "Great Game" (continent wide rivalry among old world geniuses who survived the Great War) and as you might Imagine he's kinda of gone mad. You can team up Desmond Lockheart to take him down or help him. The Island itself is a Big Mountain sort of deal.

Also, fueled powered ships are relatively common sight thanks to the presence of the Shi. Not sure of they should be antagonists, but they certainly have a large influence over the region.

So what do you think?

Since Hawaii is between the US and China another antagonist could be remnant chinese soldiers who still don't know(or refuse to) the war is over. They have a base on one of the islands that was occupied by them during the great war and are led by a chinese ghoul general who is more than 200 years old. There is not a lot of them left to take over the rest of the islands and they don't venture out a lot but they still have active warheads in their submarine and they use it to hold the rest of the island survivors at gunpoint so they don't get wiped out. Their soldiers wear suits equiped with cloaking technologies similar to that of the stealth boy and rumors have it they are masters of hand-to-hand combat. Not many have ventured into the deep jungles controlled by the chinese, and even less lived to tell the tail. Some of the more simple minded tribals consider them to be evil spirits who were refused passage into the afterlife and are now doomed to roam the earth and kill anyone unfortunate to meet them.

It's worth noting considering it's probably the second most important US naval base in the world, is likely one of the main launching points for the US invasion of China, and doubtless has some nuclear submarines/bombers present, the Chinese no doubt glassed it to hell and back. So it'll hardly be untouched, if anything it will probably be more desert-y than California. Just bare volcanic rock.

Maybe. There is nothing afaik in the fallout lore about hawaii. So that gives us free hand to fantasize about. And also how many ships could have been docked at the base the day the bombs fell? I think not many. Maybe some that were back for supplies or repairs while the bulk of the fleet was out at sea fighthing or defending the west coast from naval invasions. Personally, I wouldn't waste a bomb on a place that I know is not a priority. I think there would have been plenty more targets on the mainland US. Now I'm not american and I don't know what level of development hawaii had in the 50s or 60s. But I can assume that if china destroys america then hawaii simply becomes and an isolated piece of land in the middle of an irradiated ocean. Keep in mind if everything would be realistic and nuked to sand then there wouldn't be any interesting locations or future games.

Personally I imagined some islands were nuked directly, some others were spared bombardment, but suffered the effects of radiation. This way more diversity could be justified between Islands
