fallout in windows xp

I have installed fallout, but when executed, it tells me that I need more hard disk space (I have 30+ gb free...). So I changed the compatibility mode to w98, and w95, but in both cases it didn´t start, telling me it couldn´t initiate the input devices. Right now I´m trying a solution posted here:

since windows xp is like nt I think.

assuming it's FO1 the 'free space' error is just a matter of editing fallout.cfg file, where you should change free_space value to 0 under [system] section.

To my knowledge, you don't need to set any compatibility modea at all when running Windows versions of Fallout on XP. And neither is this error "failed to initialize input devices" exclusive to XP. This was discussed in an earlier thread:
