Fallout-ish Gun Pix and info?

Mildly Dipped
I have been working on a "How I would change the new Fallouts if I was God" for a few months now and one of the biggest things that annoys me is that few of the guns look hand made or like they have been repaired even after 200 years of hard use.

I have been trying to gather pix of home workshop/garage built guns and design types, but there are not many sources that are available to me.

I am much more interested in what people would be making in the 2200s to replace the 1980s-2000 stuff that had worn out than the many pristine looking M16s and shotguns available in FA3 and FA-NV.

Does anyone have any good ideas of where to look?

Also I have been scouring the net for Laser and Energy weapons (lasers and rail guns) to get ideas of what they would really look like. The biggest problem for energy is battery/power storage. This is fixed by FA by using their MF cells etc. I like the way that real world home built lasers look much better than the ones Bethesda came up with. I also like that they would be very fragile (and would require more repairs and would be easy to shoot and damage rather than the video game death rays that easily turn people to ashes.

Truth is with hand tools you can actually make some very good looking weapons. Check out a documentary about Pakistan's gun market.

Chances are they wouldn't have much innovation. They would likely use weapons that require less lubricants such as pump/lever action long arms, Revolvers, Single shot break actions.

Automatics are pretty taxing as far as maintenance.

I like that they use wood rather than plastics, since plastics would be hard to come by.

The laser cubes Bethesda spawned forth are horrible. Just about anything is an improvement.

I have a bunch of photos and info already, I was just fishing to see if anyone could come up with things that were not readily available on google images.

Look up a book called home workshop prototype firearms. There is also a book from the UK that teaches you how to build guns from hardware store materials.

I would also suggest the Anarchist's cook book.

And last, use your imagination.

Guns are so simple in their mechanics.

the most basic is a tube, capped at one end with a touch hole in the top by the powder. Pour powder in, place ball, tamp down, stick a smoldering match in the hole and BOOM.

if you understand that much you can make a crude firearm. Hard part is the barrel and not having it blow up in your face because it's too weak.

Now if you want something a little more modern check out how SIMPLE an "assault rifle" is

If you can make a barrel and to a little work you can make an automatic or semiautomatic rifle.

The important thing is the locking. Without that you'll cause the chamber to go back prematurely and the case will explode all over your sorry self.

Here is a different type of locking system where the barrel and lock essentially remains rigid and moves backward with recoil until the round thingies interact with the frame and let the jointed fly upward with the recoil.

My point is that home made guns don't have to be crude. In fact they can be quite well made with simple tools because the mechanisms are so simple.

The only thing holding back what your gun looks like is imagination.

I'll take some pictures of my propane powered spud gun. It can lob a golf ball a more than a 100 meters or with a quick barrel change it can fire a 1 inch steel shaft though a car door. (unfortunately my friend never built me that. It had the same construction just a smaller barrel.

You might check out youtube. There are a lot of cool things there.

The luger's firing mechanism is a work of art. It's a german thing. For fun, look up the internals of the G11 and tell me how that survived the apoc. It's like the luger fucked a clock.

Google "garage guns" and things like that. They're not terribly difficult to make, especially if you've made a design that works and have access to machinery. I remember reading about one that Swedish biker gangs make and use.

Depening on your location, you might see a lot more homebrewed modifications and repairs to existing guns.

What i'd like to see is a feature in game that randomized damage/repairs to your weapons, from different sort of scratch/scuff marks on melee weapons, to different bits on rifles taped on and etc.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Japanese gun porn.

I remember that in fallout 2 there was a gun called a pipe rifle that was homemade by Vic.

I have PA Lutys book (as well as most of the ones by Bill Holmes and some of Kurt Saxons stuff)

I was looking for low tech stuff because i have all sorts of info/pix of futuristic or prototype guns (USA, European and FSU/Eastern Block) I am looking for a very wide range of weapons.
I have been looking into including energy weapons of all types, but 90% of the energy weapons will not be military weapons, they will be hand built and will be relatively fragile. They will have the advantage of being able to be recharged/use energy magazines/batteries or capacitors of one type or another rather than rare cartridge types. They will be built from aluminum or plastic tubing with scavenged switches, laser diodes (or gas tubes) and scavenged focusing lenses from rifle scopes, eye glasses, magnifying glasses, CD players etc.
Rail guns will use magnets scavenged from various appliances etc.

(I have been putting some thought into things) I am already sure it is better than FA3 or FANV
