Fallout MAC Demo running slow

gfan

First time out of the vault
I dl'ed the FO1 Demo and put it on my laptop. It is Mac OS X 10.3.9 with a 1.07 Ghz processor and 512 Ram. It starts up in OS9 Classic but for some reason the mouse pointer moves like its filled with lead. Everything else seems to run fine though.

Any ideas?

Change the mouse speed slider, if that doesn't work try to pm 4Too, he played the games on Macs, maybe he can help you.

Your using a Mac for gaming?

LOL. It's a backup for when I'm at work and school since I don't have my own laptop, this one is just an all purpose family one. I normally use a regular PC at home.

gfan did not mention in his pm that this demo ran in the OS9 Classic environment.

My pm to him rambled on about possible -- blah-blah-blah -- resource max-ing ... too much activity might be the issue, and upgrading to 10.4+ would help. Helped my G4 Laptop. Never had to force quit out of FO 1 after that.

And using a USB mouse with 2 or more buttons, and a scroll wheel might lighten the pointer, if it's a track pad / touch pad issue.

OS9 Classic version mentioned here:

http://www.macplay.com/support/fallout.php

Looks like this is a demo of the original Mac FO release. Macplay says another company called "Macplay" did this port. Their version is for OS 10.

During the transition to OS 10 some suggested that those who had a lot of money invested in OS 9 applications create a solid OS9 partition with all the OS 9 upgrades so one had the latest hardware support in OS 9. Just change start disk (partition) and reboot.
I am not sure how thorough the OS 9 'Classic' is, that's bundled with Jaguar 10.2 and up (the feline hierarchy imagery) to 10.4.

New OS to come 2007. Other World Computing , OWB ,

http://www.macsales.com/

has good deals on older Mac OS versions. 2007, OS 10.4 will most likely be featured at half price. OWB has patches to help install OS 10 on the Beige G3's also.

Ah, the short answer was .....

Newer full FO versions should have no interface / GUI problems.
