Fallout: New Vegas patch 1.2 out on Steam

Steam users should already have the update. I know I do. Vaguest release notes I've ever seen. Why do they even bother? :)

Hooray!

Turned out a program I was using was blocking all Steam downloads so I didn't get this until just now. On the plus side it stopped me downloading a wonky Killing Floor update as well. :V

I don't like the armors in the safehouses. It makes sense they added them... most likely various people complained about it. But it feels like a cheat to me and really, it wasn't that hard to gain access to the items in the game, even though they havn't been available openly.

The big one is the NCR Ranger combat armor. Everyone hated having to kill a Ranger or do some strange reverse pick pocketing to get a legit set of it.

The description of the armor is, that each one of the Rangers worked hard to get a piece of that. And so did the player, before this patch. If you wanted such a thing, you had to kill a Ranger and deal with the consequences of it (Reputation loss etc). Now it just gets thrown after you because of some whiners.

Pft, what's the deal with hunting one down. Also it wasn't really needed anyway.. just let one assassin attack the president and most likely a ranger will die. :>

/Edit: One could argue, that getting the key to the safehouse is enough work for the player already. But then again, he isn't even a damn ranger.

Same with the salvaged power armor. Hell, it's not like the NCR has endless supply of these. They just got what they could get from Helios One and that's all. You can also see it pretty good in the game world: Compared to the elite ranger, there are just very few heavy armor troopers in power armor.

The coat from the Followers is bullshit too. I mean, you earn reputation to join the Followers... and Julie gives you a normal coat. Also you seen after (or even before?) you will get the key to the safehouse, where you get a better coat. So what sense does it make to give the player a weaker one at this stage of the game.

It's a lot easier killing a ranger to get it than going through a bunch of quests. Head shot a ranger with a silenced sniper from far away, and presto--ranger armor. No rep loss or getting aggro'ed from NCR people nearby. I did it on two different occasions so I know it wasn't just a flub.

And if you are playing a character that doesn't kill NCR troops?

the sniper rifle got hit with the nerf stick, for one.

Lol, so that was why I had so much trouble finishing Hoover Dam just after the patch. I had been saving the sniper rifle for really hard fights... but when I used it in HD I still had to land 4 or 5 head shots before the mobs went down. I guess that also explains why my follower preferred the cowboy repeater over the sniper rifle.

In overall the patch correct a lot bugs in many quests, like Camp McCarran (finally that PoS Contreras is usable), Melissa works correct this time, Motor Runner don't bug anymore and so on.

I didn't like the fact that a lot of recipes in firecamps became extremelly easy to be made, they nerfed A LOT of them. The poisons are extremelly easy to craft now.
Also people will now swim in caps more than ever, since Gecko hides are also nerfed, it's very easy to do them.
Dynamic Herbalism is a must now.

The worst part however in my opinion is that you have a NON-FACTION T51-b power armor in the BoS safehouse.
I usually don't use power or heavy armor, since they punish your agility or movement a lot, but I think is too much let you have acess to this type of armor early in the game.
Before the patch you really have to work to own a non-faction power armor.

People are complaining a lot about the snipers, but I think Obsidian did the right thing, it was obscene the amount of damage they done.

I think the move was correct, snipers usually are powerfull in most armies if you have a soldier specialized in one.
The sniper rifle IS powerfull in NV but you need to specialize now, so Finesse, Better Criticals and extremelly good agility, perception and luck also counts now.

Before the patch you could sneak and snipe without any of this, I sniped and score criticals with a 3 luck build, without perks.

BTW, it's lame that they didn't even bother to make the non-faction T-45d NOT have BoS markings on the armor. Especially given that there was a model with US Army markings in the Fallout 3 files.

Erm...sneak attacks are always criticals.

Allright, my bad for not choosing the right word, english is not my primary language.

What I meant is that you could sneak behind a guy or critter and even if you were discovered you could shoot and score a critical hit without perks or high luck.

Oh, that. Yeah, the Crit multiplier on the sniper rifle was ridicolous, especially considering that for its intended use (long-range sniping) you would crit anyway.
