Fallout "Old Style" Covers

It Wandered In From the Wastes
A few weeks back I fell in love with designer Olly Moss's re-imagining of posters for classic movies. Last week I find this guy's giving the same treatment to a select few video games, as well. Albeit styled in the classic Penguin book cover format.

Today I find a link on Offworld to a directly inspired Something Awful thread. Most of the stuff is trashy, but there are a few great ones, and photochop trolling eventually eases off.

I love good design, and though I suck, I'm equally a sucker for trying it out for myself. Failing to find Fallout done justice, I embarked on my own cover. Sadly, after rechecking the thread, I find my exact idea just posted (in case it's unclear, I don't have an SA account, not that that really matters though). So I changed mine. Somewhat.

Anyway, here are the "fruits" of my two hour labor (conceptualizing takes some time). I've got alternative covers in mind, which if I get to doing I might post. Plus of course there's Arcanum.

Not particularly great, but I thought I'd share them either way.

This one is excellent. It really represents FO for me (although maybe not for someone unfamiliar with the shape of the 'vault door') I love it's simplicity. Excellent work, man. It really reminds me of some Steinbeck book covers i really liked.

The decapitated rat for FO2 mystifies me tho ....

Olly Moss's stuff strikes me as being similar to polish posters.

I felt the same way, especially in their concepts. That said though, I myself in particular appreciate clean and simple design, the almost "logotypical" sort (that should be a word, right?), which he employs to great effect. Polish posters on the other hand often tend to be a bit scruffy and sometimes consequently quite inelegant (not saying this isn't intended).
I love both either way.

That was intended as a quick (and unfair) stab at FO2 for the early stages of the game, where slashing rats is about all the combat you'll get into. Not to mention other interpretations...

Thanks to everybody for the kind words.

BTW, now that I look at it the title placement seems a bit off. I spent like 20 minutes shifting it around, until I couldn't tell whether it was good or really bad anymore. I think it should be slightly more centered, for the FO1 cover in particular.

After looking again, I really have no idea.

EDIT: And sorry for the weird picture quality of the rat. I've been having rendering-to-jpg problems recently.
