Fallout PnP Chat host program

First time out of the vault
I've started development on a program called Questmaster-Lite. It's a chat program where you can host a "room" from your pc. The program also has a dice roller. I'm wanting to know if anybody would be interested in co-developing this program to incorporate fallout pnp, and to help it from its infancy. The program is written in Visual Basic. If anyone is interested a very early version of Questmaster-lite can be found at http://jaydium.servehttp.com in the downloads section. It does no more than chat, and roll dice. As a note the program is still in alpha stages so there are still some glitches.

I really like what you're doing. My suggestions would be to download WebRPG from www.webrpg.com

and

OpenRPG from www.openrpg.com

both of these programs host PnP games, have character sheets templates, player handbook templates, and tile based maps.

OpenRPG also comes with a "paint" program you can use to draw on the tiles, for people who are good at that kind of thing.

These are good programs to draw ideas from.

Also, I think it would be really cool if you made Questmaster exclusively a fallout PnP hosting utility, instead of a universal RPG hosting utility.

Put some bad ass Fallout Skins on it, maybe some background music ripped from the fallout games. Have fallout Tiles/Miniatures.

The problem with WebRPG and OpenRPG is neither of them focus on any one game. Therefore the community is a big melting pot of random RPG'ers that never really end up in a game.

But if you made Questmaster Lite mainly a fallout PnP hosting utility, I think you would probably have a huge community... and there would be no confusion on which game to play :)

Thanks for the input. Ideally I'd like to have a Fallout theme/setup where it would be designed to use fallout rpg that's why I made a plea for help here. I'll check out those to pnp sites to see what I can incorporate. Also, does anybody know where I can get ahold of the source to the fallout damage calc? Also, is there a good repository of fallout images, and sounds? Again thanks Lost Metal.

It sounds like a good idea.

Ive looked at some of those sites listed above before, but didnt get involved because Im not really into much in the way of RPing besides Fallout.

As far as fallout images go, I you could just use ones from the game.

Extract the FRM files, and use the images from the game as you want.

If you dont know how, either PM me for help, or go to the modding/jacking fourm and ask there.

Well this is just an update. QuestMaster-Lite is still in an alpha stage but the next version is now compiled. The program now has an experience box, saves it's settings on exit, and has an update utility. Still no fallout themed material, but it's enough to do basic roleplaying now. I hope some fallout pnp rpg'rs can find some use of this until more comes along. As a note I'm gonna install and play some fallout 2 to get back into how exactly fallout is themed, and operated. (I haven't played FO, or FO2 in about a year and a half). I want to try and be as accurate as possible.

update

Please keep us updated Demoric! I really really do love the idea of a dice automated, fallout themed, PNP roleplaying utility!

You'd definitely see me on there, around the clock.

Does anyone know where you can find the author, and/or source to the fallout damage calculator? I'd hate to spend alot of time just to re-invent the wheel.

Also, I'm considering making the program kindof plugin based so end users can just cusomize it to their role-playing needs. I just thought I 'd ask what others would think of it.

On a side note:Sorry for the delay on responses. I've recently picked up a job that is 50+hrs/week, and Still tinker with my webserver, and website. I'm glad to see that people are still interested in the project.

Actually, I'm currently working on a (Java) fallout library. I took the PnP guide for all calculations (including damage). Damage itself is fairly easy (check for damage types, armor blocking types, roll min/max, count the whole bunch together, add some traits/perks). A lot more work goes into the chance to hit a particular character.

For my current project, the combat is automated (more about that in a month or two), so that part might not be relevant to you. But if you're a Java programmer, feel free to drop by @ http://blogs.vaultnet.net.

How are these things coming along?

I tried to host some Fallout PnP games over WebRPG, but lack of player interest sort of killed that.

Well, my project is coming along nicely. Combat/characters/weapons/parties/location/dialogs/.. are done, I'm just creating the controller webpages now. Gimme a couple of months and it should be available to those interested.

I was viewing some old threads and came back to this one after a LOOOOONNNG stint away. I obviously haven't done much else to the QuestMaster program and would be willing to give the source to anyone who would like to take it over.

More importantly I must say I'm VERY impressed with vault52.
