Fallout Power Helmet 3D model

I really don't know where to put this question so here it is.

Where can I find 3D model of the original power armor helmet from Fallout. I want to laser etch it in crystal and put it on green led pedestal as birthday gift for a friend.
 
The GECK is your best bet unless someone did a fan made model of it.
You'll also have to convert the model to a format that is useful to whoever is doing the laser etching. This would be a STEP, IGES or STL file I'm guessing. These are fairly common files in things like 3D printing and CNC machining. So I'd assume that's what they'd need.
 
You don't need the GECK to get the models. You need something to extract the stuff from the game files and then a *.nif importer for your 3d modelling tool of choice.
 
Good point, just straight from the game files.
However once you have your model file as a *.nif, you'll then still have to convert it to a workable format as I mentioned.
It's possible but you'd need to have a knack for 3D software.
There may also be scaling issues. You'll have to apply dimensions to the model to make it fit into the envelope you are etching it into.
You'll also need to make sure it's one solid body or else you could run into even more problems!
There are so many different formats for 3D models and they all work very differently. There may also be transitional errors between the models used in gamebyro and something useful such as an STL file.
 
No, you don't convert the *.nif file, you download some importer for 3ds max or Blender (whatever you have access to) and simply import the model file with it. Then you can do whatever you want.
 
To mess around with the file, open and look etc, no conversion required.
But to give to file for someone to use for laser etching, it'll need to be converted.
The device for etching will probably use a process similar to 3D printing (such as stereolithography), and will most likely need an NC code to create the shape. Don't worry you wont need to do the code for it though!

As a side note, it sounds like you might be looking for a 3d model of the T51-b helmet version on the first Fallout's load screen-- as you say, the original. The actual 3d models of Fallout 1's game assets were lost, as far as I know, so you'd probably have to settle for the F3/F:NV version.
