Fallout problems after intro video clip

First time out of the vault
I have wanted to play fallout for a long time, and just happened to find the 3 pack collection today. So i thought I'd get that as it was a bargain. Only problem was I didn't check the requirements, thinking a brand new laptop would be able to do the job.

Unfortunately I didn't realise that Windows XP was not compatible, I followed all of the intructions on this website and have managed to install the game and get the intro video working unfortunately that id where it ends, just when I thought I should be at the page where I can select a new game the final image of the intro video goes all fuzzy and when I press escape I'm back to the desktop.

I looked through the forum and couldn't find any similar problems, have you got any ideas??

I am thinking of changing the drivers but I would like to be able to do this using a different profile, so I can still play some more up to date games on my current profile.

The solution I found to this problem (with win XP) was to subdivide the hard drive and istall win 98 and XP one in each subdivision, so you can use both. But you'll have format the hard drive for this. So don't do anything extreme at this moment, someone else could have a better idea.

First thing you need to do is check the compatibility setting. Check mark the win98 one, and you should be able to fix 90% of the problems. After that you might run into a few more with hardware acceleration, but those are less common.

Thanks for the help guys, I am planning on not dual booting my laptop with Windows 98, only because I have limited hard disk space at the moment. Although it will probably be a last hope.

I tried changing the compatibility to windows 98 and still had no joy, it still has the same problem. So I reduced the hardware acceleration to none and still had the problem.

Have you got anymore ideas??

Pardon, but which game are you talking about? It doesn't sound like FOT because it is Win2000 compatible.

He must be talking about FO1 since he bought a pack of FO FO2 and FOT.
But it would be nice he clarifies which game he has problems in, because it could be something completely different if the same problems appear in FO2 and FOT.
Roshambo is right, please be more specific.

Yes, it is fallout 1, I did mention it at the very start of my first post, but I guess you could have thought I meant anyone of the three.

Just to let you know all the details:

3.2GHz P4
1GB RAM
ATI mobility RADEON 9600 128MB (Omega 2.5.44 Drivers)
Windows XP Pro (with Service Pack 2)

Also I installed Fallout using the extract the CD to a folder on my hard drive method as seen on this forum. I'm assuming I did this correctly as the video clip at the start did work.

If you need anymore info I'd be happy to give it to you.

Sure, I'd like for you to tell me that despite all of the above, why you came to the conclusion that that this is the correct forum.

Really sorry Roshambo, but don't you think you could chill out just a little bit, its my first post on the forum can't you give a guy a break.

You could have a seperate forum for each different game and label them a bit better, also as you seem to have this problem quite a bit why don't you just setup a technical support forum that way you won't have the problem anymore as it will be clearer.

Anyway, I managed to get it working last night, I did a system restore back to a few days ago as my system was running a bit slow. I then setup fallout and just gave it another crack and it seemed to work fine.

Essentially we do. The RPGs have been lumped together, but the Tactics forum is quite obviously about Tactics, not FO1/2. They are labelled well, IMO, and the stickied posts in eachforum make it even easier to tell which is which. For some reason there are a lot of people who neglect to read the descriptions.

The Tech Suport for each game is in with the Gameplay discussion. There's little need to have them separate.

Anyway, 'grats on getting it going.

I wonder why I responded to this post ... :?

You obviously didn't care enough to read the rules and forum descriptions before you posted. Then you presume to tell me to correct my forums when they are already clearly marked;we've gone out of our way to make it painstakingly clear so that even those with English as a second language, which we have a significant population of, could find the right forums.

What's your excuse?

You could have a seperate forum for each different game

We do.

and label them a bit better,

Is this caused by illiteracy or stupidity?

It's one or the other, pick one. I already know what the truth is.

also as you seem to have this problem quite a bit why don't you just setup a technical support forum that way you won't have the problem anymore as it will be clearer.

There's your problem again. You seem to believe that somehow there isn't forum descriptions nor forum titles. Notice that this one is labeled Fallout Tactics Help & Tech discussions. Operative words: Fallout Tactics, Help and Tech. Which game were you asking about? Apparently not Fallout Tactics, though you seem to be confused where the Tech is despite it being in the forum descriptions and titles.

Don't cop an attitude with me because you chose to forget Kindergarten, moron.

Good, hopefully you'll take your rude cluelessness elsewhere so our time isn't wasted again in figuring out your mental disability/lack of education.

<3 Rosh's ruthlessness. Rosh, outta curiosity how would you have responded to an individual who asked why ST for a melee char/CH is so much better, when in the post before you laid out the reasons for placing what stats at what level? Would you destroy them for their ignorance too or just sigh and say its pointless to tell these mentally challenged people anything. Referring to the Creating Ultimate Slayer thread btw...

I think you did pretty well. Of course, I would have been a tad bit more patronizing and ask if they even bothered to read the topic before they decided to ask questions. and postCount++;
