Fallout 2 mod Fallout Sonora 1.14 and Sonora Dayglow 1.14 Vanilla Translation

If you mean FO2 RP, it doesn't need higher resolution AFAIK, but you do need to have the hi-res patch enabled for moving viewport in maps.
Ah, so that the .edg files work in-game, right? I had forgotten about them.

I appreciate your clarification!
Not me! I am playing it at 640x480. Looks best after trying other resolutions. Though, I wouldn't mind 800x480, as it fits my laptop ratio perfectly.

This translation is primarily supporting the 'vanilla' build directly from Nevada Band. So that won't change.

In general though nothing I am doing here really effects the resolution, and the translation can work anywhere.

I'm glad to hear that! That would've been a downer!

Anyone else got this bug? The centipede dies standing up. Something goes wrong with its death animation:

Screen Shot 2024-09-02 at 22.01.16.png

I've had this several times now. This time it happened when the centipede fumbled and hit itself. The other time I am not sure.

NPC Badi, Phoenix, Slums
Quest: Client owes the casino a large sum of caps

After looting the nuka-cola plant in phoenix and giving the box of caps to Badi I chose to take the money needed to settle the debt and every other cap in the box. So after robbing the guy blind he threatens he'll get rich and hire mercs so he can play football with my head. I exit the dialouge click on him and his floating text says:
Hello, partner. How are you?
Should be something like:
Oh I'll show you. or Just wait and see.
or Can't wait to play some football (smiles).

NPC Casino barker, Phoenix

Come in, darlings of Radfortune.
What is this even supossed to mean?

Saves Menu
Change Two-Sun Entrance to the zons to just Zone Entrance because the name gets cut off in the box.

Two-Sun, The Zone
Are my companions supposed to follow me into the zone? Because when I first entered the zone my companion the mercenary wasn't with me but when I went to the next area he appeared.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Theres an npc called the prepper right of the bunker entrance. When asked for his name he says hes called Raoul. Dont know if hes meant to be Raul from FNV or just a nod to him but if its the same npc change his name to Raul in the dialouge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside the bunker second level theres bones that read [Several uman bones.] when inspected.

NPC Padre, Two-Sun, The Zone
[There's now->no way to get through it.]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[It's a our freedom is their gain.]
...No idea...

NPC The delegate, Phoenix Church
[We will become servants - an->a title of honor for the tribe!]

NPC Surgeon, Phoenix Church
His formula for deciding the price for healing crippled limbs and hitpoints should be switched because charging 320 caps for 40hp and 39 for healing my eyes doesnt make sense and will make the game a bit more difficult (and make sense). I dont think it would be much of an issue because 99% of the players are experienced classic fallout players.

I know it never happened to me when playing vanilla sonora with high res patch in version 1.10c.

Okay, another good chunk of feedback. I changed things mostly as you suggested, but will not issues here:

Badi should have a correctly vengeful mouse-over comment now. He has two scripts, and one was missing it.

I changed Radfortune to 'Atomic Rush'. He is making play on the name of the Casino I guess.

Saves Menu issues will be delayed until I decide on a solution for ALL the locations. Many are cut off. Russian version too.

I don't know if companions should follow you in to the zone. I've never had a companion as of yet. I can look into this later.

Raoul is from Tijuana. What is FNV? Fallout New Vegas? Or Fallout Nevada?

I will take a look at the surgeon pricing, but I don't know how much I want to fiddle with settings for balance...

Raúl Tejada is a ghoul companion from New Vegas, either way I agree that he should be named Raul, because Raoul is the french version of the name rather than the spanish one

Also, now that I'm translating stuff, here's a little thing:
The Coronado security codes and the Coronado passes use different terms for Coronado, the passes call it a naval base and the codes call it a military base, officially in the real world it's a naval base.

Fnv usually stands for fallout new vegas sorry.

Also about the pricing I kind of agree with you but idk if it works that way only in sonora or in 1 and 2.

Okay, I'll make Raoul -> Raul, whether or not he is from New Vegas.

I kind of ignore post Fallout 2 'lore', which is why I was making sure about FNV. Played and modded that game to no end, but nothing of it stuck.

I guess as Raul is a ghoul, then maybe it could be the same guy...

I have updated the Dayglow military references to naval base

I searched for evidence in russian and got 1 random guy on the russian forums saying that he is the same one from new vegas and also one here on nma.. Looked at the wiki in fnv and Im 100% sure its the same dude.

Not 100% sure which references exactly but some guy on a discord server mentioning there being some overlap with new vegas in Sonora I'll keep my eyes open for any.
Edit: Just remembered there's a Sunset Sarsaparilla sign (New Vegas drink) on the right side of Kogans talking head.

Oh and
NPC Hidalgo First Council Meeting, Villa
[Tsut!->Quiet! or Shush! Stop making noise!]

Two-Sun Leaving every aspect of his former life behind, he wandered for a long time, getting as far as the Gulf Coast where he came to inhabit an unclaimed Petró-Chico refinery. He spent another long period of time there, thinking about his life. At one point, he found a Petró-Chico jumpsuit and swapped his clothes for it, even taking the name "Miguel" from the suit's sewn-in name tag as an alias for fun. His travels afterward eventually led to the city of Tucson, Arizona, now called Two-Sun (a strong pet peeve of Raul's from then on). He settled there, putting his old repertoire of mechanic skills to use as a general handyman while keeping his guns stashed away where they could do no further harm. After a long 75 years of relative peace, one day, Raul saw from afar Claudia - a prostitute working in a local brothel who bore a striking resemblance to Rafaela. Spurred by this reminder of what he lost, he took the time to look out for her – though, for obvious reasons, he never visited her.

I noticed when fighting Spanish speakers, or Mexican soldiers, that their combat messages were in Spanish, even though I have the Spanish perk

So I have fixed that now, and NPCs will have either 'translated' combat messages if you have the Spanish perk, or just plain Spanish if you don't.

Screen Shot 2024-09-03 at 19.44.08.png
One bummer here though. All the mexican combat messages are tailored to the mexican soldiers. However, there at many 'mexican' or spanish speaking NPCs who also use these same combat messages.

My choice is to just go with that and not worry about it, or, remove the 'Army' references in the combat messages, or, make two sets of 'spanish' combat messages, one for the mexican army, and a generic one for other spanish speakers.

Was that in the original or did you come up with this great idea.

Not in the original, though I have translated the actual Spanish combat ai messages form the original and made a matching set of 'english/spanish translated ones'.

I edited the post above with my options here:

Eh just roll with it for now imo but if it's to egregious it can be changed later. Just for reference could you pull up the combat messages here.

BTW the NMA dude who said that Raul from sonora and nv are the same wasnt some random guy it was Golbolco. He's one of the regulars here who I trust with opinion. So on to the evidence already presented I think its case closed for Raul (рауль in the original).

Raoul has been changed to Raul.

Sure, but which ones? The Spanish translated ones I assume.

By the way, the combat messages is a place that I have prepped for further work. The original Russian is missing a lot of combat messages (or they decided it was not worth the effort), though they are coded in to a certain extent. The Mexican general, The Phoenix Overseer, the Mysterious stranger for example, all are missing combat messages, though they were prepped for inclusion.

If that's the case then might as well I guess. I don't remember seeing much comat messages while playing.

That is disturbing. There should be extensive combat messages with nearly every human combatant. There are literally thousands of lines here. For a starter, I will post the 'Mexican Soldiers' lines here (translated from the original Spanish)

My wording was wrong not there wasnt almost none at all but the problem is that there was noticably less combat messages than i remember in 1 and 2. Although at Im unsure of this anymore atm will pay more attention while playing.

Btw can I overwrite master.dat with the patch 000 001 002 dat files. Cuz im trying to get your translation to work on the fallout2.exe vault edition app but it keeps switching to russian no matter the language in fallout2.cfg.
Im just trying to get the file structure as close to vanilla so it detects english files I guess. Also what exactly is included in patch 002.dat cantc check rn at work. For 001 Im guessing its text translated for everything but the dlc which is in 000.dat. And iirc 000 then should overwrite 001 but unsure of 002's role.

It would be good to have a correct balance of combat messages, though I imagine Nevada Band would have set it up that way.

As for the .dat files, provided the order is maintained, overwriting should be fine. 001 is vanilla text, fonts, video, sound, and art (all english), 002 is all text for the DLC, with some 'overwrites/new versions' of text in 001 and a couple of interface art files, and 003 is scripts currently.
