Fallout 2 mod Fallout Sonora - English Release

@Apexian - forgot to address the visual glitch in the barter menu - are you running FISSION? Because some graphics have been resized, and will no longer work with the original/sfall etc.

@rainyd - I'd need a bit more detail to track any crash bug. However, I have really only tested/worked with macOS, which this is mainly aimed at. I have very few options for debugging crashes/issues in windows.

@Apexian - I am adding your notes in now, mostly keeping as is.

However this one:
Dialogue option with Barkley in Inferno, "Your brothers are dead. Here's their tags."
Should be "Here are their tags". "tags" is plural.
Is meant to be that way. In common speech this form is used, though grammaticaly incorrect. I went through and changed dozens and dozens of responses to be this way.

There are other cases like this throughout the translation where spoken vernacular takes precedence over grammatically correct English - 'never learns' is another example of this from your notes.

General Maxson is referred to as a general in the Fallout 1 .msg files I believe. I think 'during' the Great War can include the immediate lead-up, i.e. 3 days before.

Also, the cathedral is what was destroyed, but it is fair to refer to the 'Children of the Cathedral' as a church. And they were destroyed.

The issue with Mrs.Bates may need a tweak of a .pro file. Not sure.

In any case, thanks for the feedback. Most of your feedback is in, minus a few as noted above.

Mother Bates uses "Ghoul" kill type, and the game doesn't have a separate critical table (and messages) for female ghouls, so you only see "male" crit messages.

About the visual barter bug, no, I wasn't using FISSION, I tested with the unmodified-from-the-website game and my sfall setup and both had it.
The installation guide doesn't mention anything about FISSION so I just assumed its version was the default.

About Maxson, John Maxson is referred to as General Maxson sometimes (the look prompt for one), my bad. Fallout 1's inconsistency with the title and FNV and Fo2 completely abandoning it is a bit odd though.

The Cathedral could indeed be referred to as a church, either out of disrespect or lack of knowledge, I was just confirming whether it was intentional or not.

Got what you mean with common speech. I'm not a native speaker so I was just pointing out things that felt like errors.

Thanks for your hard work.

Ah, yes, the website game is no longer synched. I may have to remove that link until/if it is updated.

Also, 'church' is a common reference for an entire religion. So that is the application in this case.

Thanks for your hard work.
Your very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. You can pass on thanks to Nevada Band here as well.

It seems like karma titles were removed? Russian version has them, 1.04 of the translation has them, but 1.05 seems to have removed them. This isn't documented in the log_fix file.
Something to do with FISSION, bug, or just an undocumented change?
(I really like it actually, I hate karma being given a number, just wondering why it isn't documented)

Now that the website is out of date (though it looks like the link there and the link here are the exact same, and the thread here only mentions FISSION as "supported" but not part of the install steps), the proper place to download the translation is this thread, right?

Wait, no, the website is up to date. But the link to the 'online' version is out of date i.e. the 'Play Online' line.

The 1.05 release uses Fission, just a slightly custom version, with correct start date etc.

As for karma titles being removed... hmmm.. no idea what is going on there. You are not seeing them when running the release? Or are you running fallout2.exe and sfall? I am seeing them on my own version, running FISSION, or FISSION customized for Sonora. On macOS.

Running fallout-sonora-x64.exe with the 1.05 release, new game, nothing.
Running FSonoraDLC.exe, 1.05, also nothing.
Running fallout2.exe with sfall, 1.05, still nothing.
Running Fallout 2 CE with 1.04, new game, get "Karma: 0 (Wanderer)"
Backported a 1.05 save into 1.04, karma properly shows.

What it looks like on my sfall setup, other 1.05 executables look like this too.
1761398986716.png

All other titles show properly (Arizona Ranger, Death Machine, Brotherhood of Steel Traitor, etc...)

Wait.. you mean showing the number? The value of the Karma? I think that is an sfall feature, isn't it? If so, it would be controlled through ddraw.ini I believe. The most recent build of FISSION moves those features into the fallout2.cfg - it doesn't read it any more.

Sonora 1.05 is the same. Settings for sfall supported features are in fallout2.cfg
Edit: Sonora 1.05 still supports ddraw.ini - my bad.

I have updated (with some help from @NovaRain) the English release to include the latest script updates (silent) from Nevada Band. Nothing big, but a few small changes here and there. Some updates were made to the translations as well, thanks to feedback here (@Apexian). Expanded/improved dialogues in Dayglow are also included.

You can find links via the first post of this thread, or here.

Here's my repack of Cambragol's English v1.05 with vanilla game exe, hi-res patch, and sfall bundled. I moved all Russian files to a separate language pack .dat, so the main zip is a bit smaller. I also set up the included mapper to work pretty much out of box.
You can remove Fallou2.exe and sfall's ddraw.dll and use the original FSonora.exe instead, if you want an absolute vanilla experience as Nevada Band devs intended.

If you already have Cambragol's release, you can just grab my updated sfall support pack so you don't need to download yet another over 1GB zip. Just make sure you load "fs_base_diff.dat" in mods_order.txt (already set by default, but in case you have an existing mods_order.txt for other mods) to prevent possible UI glitches (e.g. buttons in the barter screen).

That's cool, but maybe you need/it needs its own thread? Like "Fallout Sonora - English Sfall Release"?
It's already been complicated enough at times fielding issues from the other repack/packs. Part (most) of my goal here (with this full, 'English' has been to just, simplify, things - one easy download, click and play. No tweaking, modifying, setting inis, etc. Just click and play. In a way, getting away from sfall, which is 'bells and whistles' Fallout. i.e., not simple.

Most people will fiddle with the settings, you will never prevent that.

I said nothing about preventing that. I said I would like to simplify things - offer a path that doesn't *require* fiddling. For people who like a simpler way into the game. Currently the entire mess that is setting up a game/mod/tweaking a setting/installing sfall/etc. is... well... a mess. I made this 'modification' to Fallout Sonora as an easy way for people to just jump in and enjoy the game. Hassle free.

The release has been silently updated to fix a few small issues, but more importantly, it now adds a full Spanish translation by @OnlyALad

Language can be changed in the fallout2.cfg - currently english, spanish, or russian can be set. Changing language will change graphics, video, sound, and text, if available, to the selected language on the next load.

Another playthrough finished. More minor issues I found.
This was done before the latest silent update so some of these were likely fixed already. And some of these were discovered via inspecting the .msg files instead of seeing them in game, so some might be unused content if that's a thing.

If you don't mind, can you please tell me when something I reported doesn't go into the mod? Just so I don't report it again or similar instances in case I do another playthrough.

VCBabula.msg 228 "He's knows a bit that ought to help you along your way."
Should be "He knows"

INFO.msg 515 "Put your weapon away or I'll take out mine"
Full stop is missing.

EncLamnt.msg 202 "I have a farm in a canyon nearhere."
Should be "near here"

SCBoss.msg 293 "It's strange to hear you saying its unfair, when you're the one behind it all."
Should be"it's unfair" and "it's strange to hear you say"

GCBarmen.msg 430 "Previously we traded with southern cities, exchanging parts for products. But now have almost nothing to trade,"
Should be "But now we have"

GCBarmen.msg 455 "some people in the ranger territory"
Should be "in the Rangers' territory" or "in Ranger territory"
GCBoss.msg 122 "Fuck Larry!"
Should be "Fuck, Larry!"

GCLucas.msg 177 "What, you can't access the computer huh?"
A comma is missing before "huh". This is more of a consistency thing as a comma is always placed before "huh".

SCScrBos.msg 350 "Take this key. It detonates nuclear torpedoes in the lower hold of the ship." Not incorrect but I feel a "the" before "nuclear torpedoes" would improve speech flow. It's not detonating a bunch of random torpedoes, it's detonating the 2 specific ones in the ship hold.

RCFrmBnd.msg 317 "The talks all lies and exaggerations."
Should be "The talk's"

RCAcvBnd.msg 229 "I'll have to report this to the Rangers HQ."
Should be "Ranger HQ" or "Rangers' HQ"

RCBoss.msg 305 "We never got the exact coordinates of the Jackals base from him,"
Should be "Jackal base" or "Jackals' base"

BCRanger.msg 319 "Don't the Ranger's laws conflict with the tribes laws?"
Should be "Rangers' laws" and "tribes' laws" or "tribe's laws" (San Brahmin is described as a bunch of tribes united in one so I'm leaning for the former, but it depends on what it's like in Russian I suppose.)

BCBosKid.msg 288 "Like a Brahmin who has strayed from the herd." And 209, "The single Brahmin is doomed." "Brahmin" shouldn't be capitalized for consistency. (NV and Fo3 capitalize it for some reason but Fo1 and Fo2 don't. Also, it's not capitalized in the rest of the mod unless it's a San Brahmin god, "Dark Brahmin, Divine Brahmin" and Sonora is supposed to be authentic to Fo1 specifically, and I personally prefer brahmin to be uncapitalized too. Up to you though.)

RCFlick.msg 312 and 102 both have "nuka-cola" when it should be "Nuka-Cola" as it's a brand name.

ZSLook.msg 232 "You never seen any movies."
Should be "You've never"

PCCltBhp.msg 276 "Your church weilds"
Typo, should be "wields"

PCBdNark.msg 243 "A mixture of Psycho, p-painkillers, and mentats." and 272 "I have some mentats."
"mentats" should be capitalized as it's a brand name.

PCAtmBos.msg 236 "Smoothtalk, smooth skin."
Should be "smoothskin" for consistency.

PCAtmBrt.msg 223 "The boss said its okay to trade with you."
Should be "it's"

PCPrtznE.msg 253 "Thank you brothers."
Should be "Thank you, brothers."

ZIRadio.msg 212 "Tune to the Faber's mercenaries' frequency."
Should be "Tune to Faber's"

FCBarmen 260 "Later Joe."
Should be "Later, Joe."

PCFlgRun.msg 229 "the woman rolls to her side and sobbing quietly"
Should be either "and sobs quietly" or "rolls to her side sobbing quietly"

PCMaster.msg 231, "Time to die tyrant!"
Should be "Time to die, tyrant!"

PCMaster.msg 591 and 592, "the acolytes routines may have been leaked."
Should be "the acolytes' routines"

PCCltSpy.msg 281 "I'm will give you the key to the basement" and 275 "I'm will make sure"
Should be either "I will give you" or "I'm giving you"

PVCScnst.mag 354 "I think your frustrated by unfulfilled hopes."
Should be "you're" instead of "your"

PCMerkBs.msg 424 "Yes. I'm here to claim the bounty on Eydie Gorme"
Full stop is missing.

PCMerkBs.msg 504, "Can I take your training to too?"
Should be "training too?"

MCBoss.msg 290 and 1290, "I escaped from the Tinsmith's slave pen."
Should be "the Tinsmiths' slave pen" or "the Tinsmith slave pen".

MCBoss.msg 324, "Everyones got a tough story I guess."
Should be "Everyone's got"

DCBarBos.msg 213 and 1213 in "Your not from around here,"
Should be "you're"

PCCasBar.msg 296, "shame your not"
Should be "you're not"

NCApocBos.msg 387, "?"
This is very out of place. Should just be "What?" or "[Listen]" Is it in Russian too?
Like this is a conversation, how can one say "?" in a conversation?

The message at NSLabHmc.msg 106 "I need lab data to properly manufacure the poison."
Should be "You need" for consistency with other messages.
And 109 "I need a manual", Full stop is missing.

YCShopA.msg 207, "Sound's good"
Should be "Sounds good"

YCIsdTlk.msg 210 "Tell me about yourself?"
Should be a full stop or rephrased to "Can you tell me"
This is more of a consistency thing as the question mark could be for the tone of the sentence.

YCShopB.msg 260, "Do you know where I can get programs for Mr. Handy?"
Should be "For a Mr. Handy."

YCGhlMat.msg, 223 "from old manuals to programs for Mr. Handy."
Should be "for Mr. Handy robots"

Wounded ghoul in central Dayglow ruins says "Error" first encounter. Not sure why.
Couldn't even find his dialogue file.

The Empathy perk's description says "when involved in an indepth conversation."
Should be "in-depth"

Ripper vibroblade description says "the chainblade rips and tears into it's target."
Should be "its"

Dominguez and his wife in Hermosillo say "What is this? Are you threatening me?" When approached with a weapon. They speak very broken English mixed with Spanish normally so this is awkward. Google translate that into Spanish maybe? Idk.

Saving in Coronado Navy Base in Dayglow names the save "Villa Navy Base, Ammunition Depot"

For some weird reason first time talking to Frank in Nueva spawns the insecticide item into the inventory. No clue why. Nestor still gives it so it's possible to obtain 2.

Also, it seems some of my reports didn't go in?
"Help the leader form an alliance" quest in San Brahmin is still the same despite "chief" being far clearer and being used on the wiki. Is there a specific reason I don't know that it's written like that?

RCAgata.msg 210 still says "Well, what is it wanderer?" (1210 is "What's on your mind, Ranger?")
and GCEugPup.msg 259 "You've got a real silver tongue mister..." are without commas.
I don't think this falls under common speech overwriting grammar as commas are almost always used when addressing someone in the translation and in Fallout 1, 2 and NV.
Do you plan to do the opposite and remove all commas when addressing people?

By the way, is it normal that Don Diego doesn't give any quests? He still has the dialogue chain to be convinced to give a job but he always says that he doesn't have any work every time I talk to him.

And is it spelled "señor" or "senor" ("señora" and "senora" too)? I found a lot of both and recorded a bunch of instances of the latter, but it seems the whole late game (Puerto - Casa Nueva - El Faro - Hermosillo - Dayglow) exclusively uses "senor"?

And I saw a few mentions of somewhere cut called San Felipe on the wiki, since you looked at the game files for a long time, do you know anything about it? kinda curious, what was the place about? How finished is it?

And looking at the official OST, there's 2 tracks I don't remember hearing, One Way and Ghosts, do you know where they play? Information on this game is very scarce.

Sorry for the barrage of questions - I don't know where else to ask, thanks in advance.

San Felipe is similar to El Faro, a fishing village with mutant problems, from what I understood, it was supposed to be in Baja like the real life location
Gilberto from El Faro has a dialogue option where he says he sometimes sees lights at the other side of the coast, later adding he didn't except another settlement to be in that direction. I can't remember who says this, but someone from El Faro will mention how San Felipe is doing, commenting on how they haven't heard from them in a while or that they're doing well

It has 2 characters with actual dialogue, Gloria and Jan/Ian, Gloria is a girl trapped in a cave with monsters, Ian's dialogue is also about these same monsters
That's all I know, it must have been cut early in development since the only thing that remains is this and the maps, which you can access by running FSonoraDLC instead of the Fission release and pressing the following keys on the main menu: Ctrl + Alt + R, this will load up the Map selector and you can go to FELIPEA.MAP and also B and C. Here two screenshots which show the location had some unique graphics added for it that don't show up anywhere else (I think):

That's... pretty disappointing actually. I expected it to be NMR-affiliated or something since Hermosillo is an awfully underdeveloped location and the NMR are as developed as Bethesda factions.

I suppose it's good too that it's so... basic since losing an actually good location would've hurt.

Thank you for the insight.

Was a translation for the design docs ever made by the way? It probably has something to say on why the Mexicans are so underdeveloped.
