Fallout Tactics Editor Help

LucifersKnight

First time out of the vault
To those who can,

I'm new to the forum and have recently become interested in creating my own Fallout Tactics map. I intend to add my own "base" to the default campiagn. My main bump right now is scripting as I have always been a graphics person. I am in need of Fallout Tactics scripting documentation or any other helpful information.

Thanks in advance, LucifersKnight

thanks for the plug.. but my tutorials are completely useless to him..

1. he wants scripting help,
2. he wants it for TACTICS.....

neither of which is covered by any of my FALLOUT 2 MAPPING tutorials...

Actually your Fallout 2 mapping tutorials did come in handy at one point in time so I wouldn't call them useless, just dated. I have a very generalized idea on how to script now so now I'm just tackling my tile popping issues. Thanks for the help though, any guidance is better none.

You mean the occlusion principle? Or perhaps simply trying to get tiles to dissapear a bit ahead of time? In the latter case you'll need to put invisible tiles. I don't quite recall where it is and how you toggle viewing them though. It's been quite a while for me.

ColJack: I just re-read your tutorials. I checked Alt-P again - and sadly it requires "save_text_maps=1" too. Which kind of defeats the purpose of the shortcut... Once enabled, using alt-P save the text, alt-a saves as a new map (no text) and alt-s saves both.
(alt-a and alt-s act the same as the menu options obviously).

That is all for now...

I worked out the tactics scripting pretty quickly on the most part because there is no programming required. I found some of the tutorials by OnTheBounce, JJ86, Goldenbeast and others very useful. Google for them. Some of them used to be hosted at Duck and Cover and also on NMA I think.

EDIT:

If you have any specific questions and DAC is not operational, then PM me. Actually, you may prefer to PM JJ86.

There are some tutorials here .

With the tile popping, caps are good. To make invisible tiles, just highlight them and tick the invisible flag. Note that invisible tiles block LOS. Use view to tick the invisible tiles option.

To get your roofs to pop, select the option of getting New Occlusion Data, which is really slow, but enables the levels to pop.

Scripting works in Triggers with condition/s and action/s, similar to Star Craft or whatever. Tag names are vital, but the triggers are not too complicated, working on a 'fill in the blanks' principle. To see what they are experiment and read the editor readme.

I say again READ THE EDITOR README!
