Fallout trilogy freezes

BlitzPuppet

First time out of the vault
I've been trying to play fallout 1 and I am enjoying it (as much as the game lets me). Now after a while in the game I start to get just complete PC freezes, which force me to do a hard reset. I've tried it on the 1.3.4 patch, nope still get it....tried it on the reg 1.2 patch...nope still freezes.

I've run both in compat mode for windows 95-windows xp and I continue to get both freezes/screen blackouts where I'll have to open up pipboy to refresh the screen.

Now my pc passes reqs: Intel Q9400@3.2ghz, 4gbs of ram, XFI soundcard, 2 8800GTX in sli. This is the absolute only game I get the freezing issue in....what could be causing it? Running vista 64 bit....

I have no idea about the freezes, you could try switching to different compatibility modes and see if that helps, it's worked for me on different games. But screen blackouts are common on newer operating systems, even for the original releases of fallout(I run XP with the fallouts from the dual jewel case walmart edition from a few years back and get at least one blackout a day)

In Fallout 1 and 2, freezes are a fact of life; As well as getting trapped in a door and having to kill someone to escape! Though, there are plenty of work arounds for the screen black out . . . Being too lazy to do any of them, I just routinely open up the options panel . . . For which the keyboard shortcut I suddenly can't recall. O, I believe.

Though, to save you some grief . . . Disable your anti-virus/firewall suite/seperate programs, and just disconnect from the Internet for a little while. Might help. If you're running Vista, by the way, those freezes, resulting in a black out, are usually memory reference errors incognito (damn you, Vista!). Surely you're not restarting your computer to get out them though? (Well, that was a "hard" reset in the days of Windows 95 )
