Fallout1 and dosbox help

I have downloaded fallout 1 and dosbox and have no idea how to run it. I also tried to patch the game I think I did it right. I also am using dos for the first time ever. I am on windows 7 if that helps.

I looked through the threads but only found cases of issues after the game has been opened sorry if this is a repost of the same question.

I now have it up to the point that is says unable to change to fallout.

Is there an illegal version that uses DOSBox?

Anyway, Fallout comes with a DOS executable as well as a Windows executable. But why you would want to try running it in DOSBox instead of Windows is beyond me.

Well, an ISO from the original CD has the DOS-executable.
Not sure way anyone would use it, though, the CD also has a Win-exec.
