Hi
Just came across a bug in fallout and its making me crazy because I cant progress any further in the game because of it.

Basically whats happening is that everytime I go to or above level 3 in the brotherhood bldg I get a notification that "Brotherhood members have seen you stealing" and then everyone in the brotherhood becomes hostile. The funny thing is that they are ok with me till level 2. I can talk to people and do whatever but its only when I go above to level 3 or 4 that they turn hostile

This is happening across multiple save files and in each of them the brotherhood was ok with me before this bug started happening.


What I basically did in my playthrough is took the power armor from Michael after rescuing their man from the hub and then some ammo which Matiah told me to get from Michael.

After that the only other things I did inside the brotherhood was talk to a few people, get healed from the doc, took the brotherhood history holodisk from vree and the mission to scout the north from the elder and left.

I then went and did other shit in boneyard and then entered the cathedral then changed my mind and went looking in the north part of the map, found the military building and the alien blaster and then returned to the brotherhood to tell about the military building.

But before going to the elder I stopped at level 2 and took a few chems from the cabinet behind the doctor and also then tried to lockpick some of the locked doors on this level but failed cos I had left my lockpicks with my companions and had low lockpick skill.

After that I just went above and I have been having this problem ever since. As I said, this happens on not just my latest saves but even earlier ones where I am absolutely sure the brotherhood was fine with me!!

I am hoping someone here knows what is wrong and can suggest something to help me cos I dont want to abandon this playthrough and start again!!!!!!!
 
Get Fallout savegame editor.
Open it and find and select your savegame.
Push the "GVARS" tab and scroll down and select "250:ENEMY_BROTHERHOOD". In the "GVAR Value" box, change the "2" to a "0".
Save and you should have it fixed.
 
I wondered why I hadn't put anything in my guide about this, and checked the script. It's apparently a bug, although the intended functionality is not entirely clear. If you access a container, it sends you to the skill use procedure. But it then asks if you were using the Steal skill, and since you weren't, everything's fine. So it seems the only way to actually get caught is to use the Steal skill on containers, which should never be necessary.
