fallout2.exe application error

First time out of the vault
I am running Windows XP Pro and everytime I play fallout2.exe randomly crashes, coming up with an application error. I can't read exactly what it says because the screen goes black and I can't task switch to it.

Just recently it has decided to pick a particular spot to crash, right when I end my turn in combat.

Is there any solution for this or am I hooped?

I had that problem with loading the game when I replaced the patch DAT with a mod. Extracting both into a subfolder, deleting the DATs and merging the duplicate files solved that.

If it's not DAT related, I have no idea though.

it's good to know that not everyone out there would rather assume someone is pirating than try to help them when they say their game is crashing

i'm thinking it might have something to do with the fact that I didn't install it manually. Everything worked fine for install, the game played great up until The Den, that's when it all went downhill. my gave might have been messed when I noticed that there was no Joey to talk to...nowhere to be seen. i should have loaded it then and went on, dumb me. As well, it seems to me that my sound is skipping once in a while, a shot in the dark but perhaps that might be interlinking with my problem too.

But first i'll try a reinstall from scratch doing it manually.
