I spotted that Killzig of DAC had posted a snibblet about a new Review for Fbos, this time around a site called XboxAddicts posted their verdict over Fbos:
I’m sure some may like Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, but for me it was dejavu. Been there done that, and as much as I truly hate comparing games when doing a review, I’ll leave you with this final example. In Baldur’s Gate DA, your first quest to get the key to unlock whatever is to rid the cellar of rats. In Fallout your first quest as you roll into town is from the mayor, who will give you a key after you rid a warehouse of scorpions. Not to mention the levels are also just mazes that just wind you around and around just like you know who. I wanted Fallout to be good, I love Road Warrior type stuff, and as much as I hate to say it…Fallout is Baldur’s Gate in disguise.
Sigh, yup..Real innovation!

Well, like we've been saying, the console reviewers don't like this game either. This XBox site gave the game a 50%, which is a FAILING grade.

Reviews

I've followed some reviews by the console-centric medias over the last couple years. From that sampling I think there is an ethic to call as they see it.

No writer, nor their editor, wants to "consciously" lose target market credibility. A constant shilling of worthless games will not build a readership base.

Our consumer society is a school of hard knocks. We learn early that ads lie. Reviews that are press kit copies will read as ads.

Tis a Tangled Web

Tis a Tangled Web

Tis a tangled web we weave when we back peddle for reprieve.

Oh, sweet G-GE-ESUS, I forgot to say it's the PRINT media!

Ahhhh, can I name three?

I can only name Playstation Magazine and Electronic Gaming Monthly.
The others I can't name, so are not valid data samples.

no

Desperate rationalization:
'Cause, 'cause the reviews cross referenced to the local-offical 11 year old's observations. Once he realized the writers must be 20 somethings and might have been playing games longer than he'd been alive, he was able to balance their jaded palettes with his reckless enthusiasm for anything game like.

Selective memory: Only recall the "good" or well written essays?

no

Can't name three.

So it must be a rumor. Mere hear-say, if not, ... heresy.

So my gut reactions are merely the passing of gasses, and an unsubstantiated inflection of optimism.

Whither has gone my hip cynicism?

Must be having a flash back to the '60's, or was it the '50's?
Pre prohibition? Oh, ya, the ''Wonder Years'' ...

So ...

LET THE READER BEWARE: YOUR EMPIRICAL OBSERVATIONS MAY VARY.

Call it, as .. YOU .. see it.

So let's see, in this new year of 2004 Interplay are releasing:

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 (BG:DA 1 with more loot)
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (BG:DA with different loot)
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel 2 (BG:DA with different loot and the other half of the first game)

Yup. There's nothing like flooding the market with a genre. Of course normally, it's other companies jumping on the bandwagon making clones. This time, it's Interplay shooting themselves in the head, although that is normal now-a-days.
