Evidently our own little ex-Bis'er Feargus Urquhart (CEO Obsidian) has been interviewed by 1up, he talks a little about his hard times at Bis and about the RPG scene. Here's a snibblet:
FUrquhart: Well my hell lasted from about June of 1996 until September of 2000. That was pretty much one straight crunch time - Fallout 1 to Fallout 2 to Baldur's Gate to Torment to Icewind Dale to Baldur's Gate 2. It pretty much sucked.

FUrquhart: Not to whine, but I got one vacation in there to get married.
Aww only one vacation?

screw that, I start getting grumpy and tired after 3/4 of the way through the year :)

Speaking of which I need a holiday

1 vacation in four years does suck, but hell. He got to work on 3 of the best games of all time. Seems worth it to me.

CGW: Hey, totally random tangent, but I'm curious: What are your thoughts on the Fallout franchise now that its going over to bethesda?

FUrquhart: Well, a part of me is sad that I won't be involved in creating the next Fallout. I always thought we would get to do it.

FUrquhart: Another part of me is glad not to do it.

FUrquhart: It's sort of a no-win situation with what Interplay has done with the brand and the rabid fans that it has.

You know i can understand his hate for Fallout fans since we know how full of bullshit he is (slam dunk, lionheart combat, TORN beeing the game all Fallouy fans would want, the Fallout2 bugs, unfinished quests and design chaos mess, etc) but putting us on the same level as Interplay, man that`s low, really low. So Fergus do please go outside and eat shit, don`t forget about the ketchup.

Come on Briosafreak, don't be so hard on poor Feargus, I blame his parents myself (and not just for his conception). They were thoughtful enough to give him the initials F.U., he's just trying to live up to that name.

Never knew much about this guy, figured he must be a cool guy since he worked on the fallouts, planescape and even Baldur's gate 2 and Icewind Dale.

But goddamnit, he sounds like a bitch.

And that was caused by the only person knowing the code leaving, which is just piss-poor management, especially in the software industry.

Who was the head of that division, again? :)

I didn't bother to post those Fallout statements in the news post, it's the plain bs we allways get from Fergie..

Guess it's that time of the month again..

Damn I love southpark :D

well, F.U said something about "playing the demo", and the game could be finished in a year... he was talking about the van buren demo right? anyone wanna kidnap a dragon or a goblin and ask bethesda the demo for ransom?

I don't understand how he can blame us for beeing rabid, it's partly his own fault, after all it's mostly fallout that made us rabid(at least me, that is)

How does caring about what happens to a game we really like make us rabid? I think too many people do not care about what happens to the gaming industry. I think it is us hardcore gamers that keep the industry going in a positive direction and not a all for profit direction, not to mention keeping them on their toes.

Someone has to be around to crack the whip, right?

Yep Dixie, and we`re loosing...

I know and it worries me. I have been playing games since I was a little kid and back then gaming was not nearly as popular is it is now. I think that was a good thing. Games just are not what they used to be. I think developers are too interested in what sells and not what the hardcore fans want. i.e. sex, non violent games, etc. FO:POS is a good example of this kind of game although I do not know about the violence in POS as I have never played the game. In other words, I think they cater too much to the average jo blow gamer. I think they are too afraid to take risks.

There's something wrong with me.
I read "blow job gamer".

Geez.
