Final Boss Bug?

First time out of the vault
After convincing Sgt.Granite to join me in fighting Horrigan but before engaging Horrigan, I attempted to Repair the gun turret(any will do) to see if it disables the gun.

But lo and behold... the game ends! It skips the fighting part and straight away I'm shown the cinematics whereby the tanker is leaving the exploding oil rig.

Eh?
 
-What version of the game are you using?

-You can use the terminal at the bottom of the screen, down below Horrigan to either shut down the turrets or to engage the counter-insurgency protocol (which will make the turrets kill Horrigan).
 
Installer: Fallout 2 Revived Installer 1.02.25.0

Patched: 1.02.26 (Killaps's)

High Resolution Patch: 2.2c

I had pretty high intelligence, 7 and high science and repair skills too but couldn't counter insurgency option never appeared on the monitor. All I got was 'Maybe I better do this somewhere else' and back and forth.
 
This is no bug!
When you use the repair skill, time advances with 30 minutes.
You only have 10 min until the rig blows up. You do the math. :)
 
Uhm, aren't exploits supposed to give some advantage, or at least something you would want to happen? :)
More like an oversight. It's a bit silly that the player would even attempt a time consuming "repair" on the turrets when he wants to get of the rig as fast as possible. Maybe killap will disable the repair function on turrets if the reactor is blowing up. I don't know. If it was me I wouldn't bother.

While it's possible to turn on this "counter-Frank" program quickly, in most cases you can't convince Granite to fight AND turn turrets against Frank at same time. Sergeant comes in room quicly after end of dialogue, and fires at Horrigan as soon as spots him

For me, Granite and his crew mosey on into the room, and then stand there indefinitely until I engage Horrigan.

Yes, sgt. Granite doesn't initiate combat. Chosen One must walk to Frank to start the battle. So, you may recruit enclave troops and then walk close to the wall, to the computer console, where you activate emergency protocol. It always works - turrets and enclave troops fight against Frank together.
 
I had the President's card but didn't get the counter-insurgency option on the terminal. All I got was 'maybe i better do this somewhere else'.

I managed to convince Sgt.Granite but never got the turrets to work for me.
