"Find the missing caravans" - can't talk to Butch

I've been searching and searching, but it seems no one had this problem.

After I got the disk from the dying mutant, and the quest got ticked off as completed, I was wondering what I should do next.

Well after literally several hours of doing other things, I tried to speak to Butch, but he tells me to leave him alone.

According to a walkthrough I just searched:

Find the missing caravans.

Talk to Butch and tell him just about anything, then talk to Rutger, tell him it was mutants and show him the holodisk, and you'll get $800 and 1000 xp. If you need to go back to the cave, Slappy will take you there if you didn't already kill the deathclaw.

Well, I can't talk to Butch, he always tells me to go away. Text comes up in red font, which I think means I'm on his shitlist, even though I don't think I've ever done anything wrong to him.

I've got the 1.02 patch btw.

I've got 60 days left (already spoke to the water merchants), and I think I need to find a way around this quick. Been a couple of years since I last played fallout so my memory is a bit jagged.

EDIT: If my memory serves me right, it doesn't matter if I fuck up a quest, since there is always a way I can complete it, right? Thinking about it, I don't need to do anything else about this quest, I should go to necropolis.

Yes I did, he tells me to speak to Butch. And Butch doesn't want to speak to me. I hope this doesn't stop me from progressing the game, I just entered the BoS HQ right now after doing The Glow 'quest'.

I think that there was nothing more to win from the quest than caps, so with the gear from the Glow you should be able to play along.

Ah good to hear, I've forgotten a lot of things from this game, (Not The Glow though B) ). I've got about 60 hours left, I hope I'll finish in time, I've already asked for the water merchants to deliver water once.
